It'll be fun watching Reddit flush itself down the toilet from over here, I expect.
I'm almost out of popcorn; I hope you brought more snacks. I want to continue watching the dumpster fire.
A memorial for the front page of the internet. If you have left reddit or is considering leaving then this community is for you.
There’s also a blog documenting the rise and fall of reddit as well as news and thoughts on the whole issue.
It serves as an archive for posts and topics in case reddit decides to delete anti-reddit posts within its platform.

We emerge as they fade away
We already saw one Reddit exodus on Tumblr, but a lot of us held on to dual citizenship. I'm testing the waters here for my non-Tumblr posting, and other than hating the default color scheme, it really doesn't seem like a big adjustment.
The joke I made to the other tumblrinas was that the reddit exodus was like relocating wolves from captivity into the wild. Like, yeah, they're gonna have to adjust, but it's better for them in the long run, and encourages a more robust and diverse ecosystem.
The Twitter exodus was like releasing 10,000 pugs into Yellowstone.
The main "encouraging violence" fantasy I have is the next Wolfenstein spiritual sequel. The series has always had G.I. Robot's absolute adoration for the process of painfully ending Nazis' lives, and as long as it could pick out its exact (in-game) faction targets well, like I.C.E., and takes some ideas from Doom's glory kills, it could be a lot of fun.
Hello, it's me. Happy to be here! 😁
My final straw with Reddit was a year ago, with an r/askreddit question, "Now that the Supreme Court has given Presidents immunity, what's the funniest thing Biden could do?" I answered, "Shoot Donald Trump." I caught a strike for inciting violence, appealed it, and got a clearly automated reply upholding the strike. Made a Lemmy account that day and never looked back.
"Shoot Donald Trump" is the funniest thing Biden could have done.
It certainly would have helped him turn the debate around.
Yeah, the upvote thing got me. Crazy shit.
forgot my old login to here so made a new one, but my reddit got banned for 3 days for "violent threats" after talking about Luigi in r/europe.
reddit chose their side. goodbye reddit and twitter, hello Lemmy and Bluesky.
It's important to recognize that these changes to reddit, like inserting more ads, banning subreddits, shutting down the public API and excessive restriction of expression around Luigi, are partly a result of pressure from the people who own reddit, the financial backers, who are the kind of owning-class mega-rich who are threatened by the idea of Luigi.
BlueSky is also ultimately beholden to venture capitalists, it's only a matter of time before they must start making back that money by appeasing the owner class and following their demands. So, like others have recommended, I recommend trying to find a good Mastodon site if there's one that suits you. Just like Lemmy, it's a federated group of sites which can share content with each other.
Bluesky isn’t much better. May I suggest Mastodon.
I've already given mastodon a shot, functionally it felt more like Tumblr. aside from that, Mastodon did not get picked up by the artist community that used to inhabit Twitter. the UI and layout is much the same, things are about where we expect them to be, and it's not a complete format change in the way that Mastodon is.
what a lot of people wanted was the old Twitter back, with no more AI or Elon, and a functional block system. that's why Bluesky started to take off where Mastodon and Hive didn't.
maybe this guy will turn out the same way Twitter did, there's no way to know for sure. for now though, it's what people wanted, and it's certainly what I wanted. small artists and creators don't use Mastodon because it's much harder to get outreach on there, you have to specifically join communities and follow server groups on their to expand your feed, and it's just overall a different layout that doesn't make it inviting to transfer from Twitter.
most people that were on old Twitter don't want an alternative social media to Twitter, they just want old Twitter.
I understand that there are laws against violent speech online so the platforms have their hands tied in some ways, but they are completely fucking stupid. We need to get rid of them entirely. People are just going to say "luigi them," instead of "kill them," then "luigi" will become a banned keyword, it will get replaced with something else and so on forever. Especially when your country is at war, there is no way to talk about reality without talking about violence. And violence is justified in self defense. These laws are the product of some soy ass peace time virtue signalers and need to be immediately overturned so that people can begin organizing an insurgency for when the yanks invade.
As a yank, I approve this message.
Would have been two days ago, but I was doing yardwork this weekend from when I got up until I dropped and wasn't online.
I don't tend to post things that would get me a ban, but the principle of it and who was actually catching the consequences made it clear who was taking the space over. I almost moved here back during the mod api protests and I refused to use reddit for about six months, but this is a point of no return. Hopefully activity will increase in the topics I read about.
HOA's are communism for libertarians. I think the comparison is apt.
...I don't see how that makes sense. What's communist or socialist about an HOA? If anything, HOAs are capitalists trying to force property values to increase by using crappy anti-social laws.
Incidentally, communism for libertarians might be libertarian socialism or anarcho-communism, which both predate the US right-wing Libertarian ideology and instead actually focus on everyone's liberty.
Lemmy needs a lot of publicity IMO. Users who are active on Reddit can do their part.
Reddit mods tend to remove Lemmy mentions
I haven't been banned from many reddit communities yet, but I've seen the news about them banning upvotes for comments about italian plumbers and I decided it was time to look elsewhere.
Hi! I started reading about Lemmy over the weekend and made my account today.
You can say "Luigi" here.
Welcome.
