It’s scary that the Unity debacle is not just happening in games but a very real threat not just in digital and app space but in real life.

It can happen in medicine, housing, even the food we eat if the trend of subscriptions and lock ins continue.

Despite this, a global concerted effort towards Open Source tech is still not happening.

In Unity for example, there is a push to transition to Unreal but less so for Godot. We see this happening with reddit too. And soon maybe we’ll see it in real life. What’s stopping our hotels and landlords from charging us everytime we open doors.

We see this in the rampant mandatory tips. Where everyone is automatically charged per order.

It’s scary and frustrating at the same time that there may not be a clear remedy for this. As the world shifts to subscriptions and services, do we truly own anything anymore?

Was tinkering with userchrome and sidebery this day and it got me thinking how others has their firefox customized. Let's bring the fun back to firefox. Share your screenshots. :)

It's not just lemmy that's benefiting from Elon Musk.

Hmmm, on the bright side, with lemmy going mainstream maybe some of this culture (including privacy and FOSS) becomes more and more openly discussed.

With the number of people concerned about privacy, it is a wonder why chrome is even popular.

This! We all mourn at our own pace. Some people may still be at the anger stage.

I recall it had the mouse on it. Now I have the purple world.

Honestly, if the idea of no trials don’t bother you, there are plenty more reminders why YOU shouldn’t preorder.

I wholeheartedly support NOT engaging with beehaw. Any instance that supports defederation and censorship is an instance NOT worth supporting. The fediverse is supposed to be a refuge of free speech (within reason of course.) If an instance chose to defederate and isolate itself, it deserves the very same isolation it so wanted.

Tldr; beehaw wants to isolate, then give it the isolation it wants.

How is reddit post protest, did it really win over protesters? Did the ones who left make a dent? Or like all things before, did it ultimately do nothing?

Is it speed? Features? Ease of development? Just curious why lemmy is seeing more activity as opposed to other networks.

❤️‍🔥 🎇 It’s finally here! And it will live on my home screen just like Apollo used to do. 🔥 ❤️‍🔥

Just spreading this news in case you’re like me and late to the good news :)

I randomly came across Nostr along with Tildes and Lemmy in my early hunt for THE reddit alternative to make a home. While I decided to make a home in lemmy, on the basis that its interface and structure isn’t that much different from reddit and apollo, curiosity keeps gnawing at me. And I just have to ask.

What exactly is Nostr and how is it different from the Fediverse? What are the pros and cons of each?

And if somehow both platforms mature to the point of mainstream, is an eventual bridge between them feasible? Something like what this site is attempting to do?

Sorry of this question is somewhat loaded. I just don’t see much discussion on this anywhere else. Or maybe I just didn’t look hard enough.
