Do we want them to participate in the planning. Before you know it they sell the plans (and everything else) to Putin. I think it is time we start to treat them as a untrustworthy nation.

Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in [email protected]. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
(This list may get expanded when necessary.)
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @[email protected], @[email protected], or @[email protected].
Are they plannimg on closing bases too?
Just for anyone who still holds out hope: NATO as we have known it is over. The US won't come to the defense of the other members if they are attacked. It's time to move on.
Probably because itβll be the US attacking them at this rate.
nor should they trust us with ANYTHING until a new administration. and only then after a long time of repair and re-establishing of long term trust.
our rollercoaster is coming off the rails, it would be silly for 5eyes or any other allies to trust anything from this absolute shitshow.
As long as the US does not reform its democracy there is no chance of rebuilt trust. The president now being immune against the law, the way he can dictate by executive order and the broken election system mean that there is no long term planning possible. Combine that with their utterly defunct news system and I only see them sliding further downwards.
yes that's what i said.
They're not just not coming to the defence, they're mobilizing for war. It's very clear.
This was Putin's goal. Destabilize NATO. Crumbling US alliances is just the cherry on top.
We are losing long friends and close allies.
All because a plurality of voters want to feel powerful.
Even if it's for a brief moment.
It seems ever less likely the US will participate in the NATO summit in The Hague. Too bad for Mark, though people living and working there will probably not mind.
Pretty sure that if a US military person crosses the threshold of the Hague they catch on fire
Looking more and more likely to see US folks in the Hague for vastly different reasons in the future...
Heard King WA is going to throw a fancy dinner for the NATO leaders, so Donny might be interested to attend.
Does he know the Netherlands have a king? I doubt he cares about any monarch other than Charles maybe.
I think he is susceptible to all things pompous, so he might be interested. I think he knows the Netherlands have a royal house, i can remember Rutte being over at the white house in his first term and he thought the name " the kingdom of the Netherlands" was really great. But who knows!
This works out well because its likely best we have no intel on it.
Super Geniuses At Work.
Very cool, very stable.
