I would become a vegetarian to avoid this, but then they also keep having listeria on the vegetables.
Annd it's caused by use of contaminated manure (or contaminated runoff water), so buying organic doesn't really help. Buying hydroponic or compost-only (veganic) would, though, but that's probably not available at most supermarkets, and there would be a significant cost premium.
On the other hand, not getting listeria does sound pretty good too.
And of course the problem's source is mass animal agriculture, so stopping eating animals would be a step in the right direction regardless.
I think that "contaminated manure" is a bit of euphemism, don't you? Any time that I read about these shit-borne infections, I am reminded of this:
and its caused by 2 very nasty pathogens, shigella, and an amoeba. the latter being very hard to treat .
Glad I live in a state that has the power to put warning labels on products in other states and nations. We're gonna go ahead and keep not shitting in our own water and food.
