As a child once told Trump: "Shut your mouth."

US is making it pretty clear there's no point bothering with negotiating with them.

We should take all that excess aluminum and steel and start a massive weapons program to bolster our armed forces and preserve jobs. How about rushing those pipelines while we're at it, that would use a lot of steel.

Excess factory supply gets new tooling from our great Ontario manufacturers. Any factory closing or laying off gets nationalized. Our factories are already close to our steel and water so this can be done efficiently. This keeps our industrial sector alive and innovative.

We're one of the most educated countries in the world, it's time to get scrappy and put all our skills to good use.

I was thinking that we should build more trains.

Hit them on medical isotopes. We produce by far the world's largest quantities. Don't play games. Hit em where it hurts. All those old men in power need doctors and treatments. Fuck em.

They won't be able to afford our medical isotopes soon. These are raw material inputs into high value industries. This will damage US aerospace, automotive, etc.

Don't tariff your inputs! This means Boeing will pay a lot more for any aluminum (domestic capacity insufficient, and less price competition vs. eat the tariff).

It's going to suck, but at least I can revel in the schadenfreude as the US shoots itself in the foot.

Immediately impose 25% export tariffs on oil and gas to the US, all proceeds directed to support the Canadian steel and aluminum industry.

Oil companies in Canada can suck it and help preserve our country, they're rich enough to take it. Pass emergency legislation to bar them from laying off oil & gas workers. If they squeal, call them out as fascist enablers and make it 30% unless they shut up and agree.

Gas is already 20 cents up again. How would tariffs help with that? It’s Not like the importer has to pay them

I don't understand this take.

We impose tariffs, then those goods get more expensive for Canadians to buy. Why do we want to punish ourselves?

Imo we should lower our tarriffs on other nations, make it enticing to buy somewhere else

Note the difference between import tariffs and export tariffs.

Export tariffs on oil would increase the price for the U.S buyers, at the cost of making the Canadian oil less competitive in that market.

Or Go 50% then let them squeal to 30% to pat them on the back.
