Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Yes! Absolutely yes! My wife hates it but our house is "no spider-kill" house". I have explained how we benefit from spiders in the house and how they're nothing to be feared of multiple times. I love spiders and i wish more moved in!

Humans are alright, but salticids are god's greatest masterpiece

I always smile when I see those cute guys. Hope they find enough food and live long.

Out of all the spiders jumpers seem to be the most interactive and have a personality.

Let spiders be people

Let them stop making web all over my house, and I will consider it.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why does your house have so much food for them? Clean up better.

I swear to god, once I get control back of my life, the amount of judgement I will unleash on everyone. I will list your every sin, like so:

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 hours ago

That will not save you from your punishment.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 17 hours ago

Absolutely not, but i'll try to avoid killing you. please stay in the corners where i am not.

The little man is confused by the transparency of the glass jar as i encapsulate his arachnid ass and put him in the microwave.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe someday, we'll all get lucky and some large alien puts you in a stasis bubble you don't understand and then chucks you in the singlularity compactor.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 hours ago

Okay that's completely different because now i'm the victim, not fair. 🐱

You can cry all you want, but now i have spider jerkey..

[–] [email protected] 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

And ptobably lots of bugs. Good job!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, why else would i eat them, a true apex starts at the top of the food chain.. those bugs are next up in the jar...

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

What, you want to be next? I don't think you can fit in a jar..

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

Certainly not in your microwave all at once, but that's what the rotary cutter is for.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No, i use my rotary cutter for my bagels.. I don't think you're round enough for a saw just yet... are you hungry?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I could go for a bagel tbh. Might hit up a bagel place later, actually.

But i have my own rotary cutter. Actually got an angle grinder too. We can just use mine.

I say we; ill be losing a lot of blood. Won't be able to help much.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

What kind of freak owns all those tools... I'm afraid to ask what you would even do with those. Why would you want to be able hide a saw in your pocket???

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)
  1. It's only like two tools. Cmon.

  2. Work, or whatever.

  3. Work.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 hours ago

Two jobs eh? How convenient for two tools..

My partner hates them so I always try to get them to a safe location as soon as I see one.

A couple months ago I had a big ass fly buzzing around my room and annoying the shit out of me for like 2 hours. Then the pitch of it changed and sounded more frantic so I looked up and a jumping spider was murdering it in the corner of my window. If I could have high fived that little guy I would have.

If you can stand on three legs

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago

They have two claws on each paw and regularly wave their two front legs about which gets us to 4 digits, that's pretty close

The last couple of years the earwigs have been terrible. They eat everything and my basil gets eaten down to the stalks. I've tried all kinds of things and nothing seems to work other than keeping the soil dry which only mildly helps. This year I noticed a spider hanging out in my basil plant. It kept getting bigger and my basil grew better than ever! Now I take extra care of my spider buddy!

If frien, why enemy shaped?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 13 hours ago

Enemy of bugs. Too focused on being good friend to look.... Wait have you seen their webs? That shit's beautiful.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 18 hours ago

Seriously! Whoever designed the animals really should have gotten feedback before publishing

Spiders: usually harmless, often quite helpful. But has too many legs and a general creepy-crawly vibe. Save those for centipedes etc.

Bears: best avoided, dangerous even without meaning to be. Fluffy as heck with those stupid cute little ears. Shoulda put them on something that I can hug without probably being mauled, maybe a really big dog breed.

Jumping spiders are so cute

[–] [email protected] 0 points 22 hours ago

They’re my favorite kind of spider! We had a pet jumpy boi recently in our kitchen. Saw him for five days or so, usually on our stove or wall above our table, before he went away. I hope he’s alive and doing well.
