Don't know about weapon techs, but I have been to a Wing Chun place that I really liked. Maybe I would have learned more about self defence from something like Krav Maga, but I do feel much more confident in my ability to fight back if I need to now
There's a Wing Chun in my area that I'll probs fall back on if I can't find what I'm looking for.
I find krav maga to be kinda gross. Jujitsu + Muay Thai is the same foundations without getting into Israeli traditions.
reads the word jujitsu and writes 3 paragraphs
Even before October 7th I was like "Israel? Gross." But I also thought all the gun disarms, multi-opponent stuff, and groin shots were pure LARP. I never drank the kool aid for self defense and when people walk around with tacticool swagger it's always rubbed my the wrong way. My philosophy has always been the good part of krav is the kickboxing so you ought to just learn to kickbox. There was a guy that bothered me at BJJ because I was working on my stand up. He was brand new and I'm knocking on the door for a black belt. I'm trying my new judo stuff and he manages a takedown. He asks me after the roll "how'd you get taken down by my hehebebfnebwbbwwhdhrb?" I don't know, man. I didn't even remember the exchange he was talking about. In sparring against a self proclaimed newbie I don't need to use my A-game nor am I trying to win. If I went into every round like it was a fight I'd run out of friends. All I'd have to show for it was a couple 5 min rounds where I keep blasting newbies with double legs and o soto garis and then doing Americans on their shoulders.
The point being that I didn't spend the last decade of my life doing this so I could just Kamehameha everybody who ever dares to step up to me. Krav has the Satanic ethos where you kaboom people for self defense. BJJ gets its roots from judo where mutual benefit and welfare are a pillar of the art. And me personally I'm living out my inner teenager's fantasy of complicated Naruto fights where I need to use ninjutsu to overcome other ninja. Your white belt ass is only going to know the fundamentals I've taught personally and maybe some wrestling so I'm only going to test an experimental build against you.
