Democrats in Congress picked Connolly to serve as the ranking member of the Oversight Committee in December, rejecting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bid to serve as the party’s leader on the powerful panel. Ocasio-Cortez, 35, was one of multiple younger Democrats seeking generational change among the party’s top ranks.

I expect they will find another old white dude to fill the spot before they ever consider Ocasio-Cortez.

A lot has changed since December...

I think if AOC still wants it, she's got it now.

Pelosi and the rest of the senior elected politicians don't have the DNC behind them anymore. She was never good at convincing people to see her side, she wielded the DNC like a cudgel and had zero qualms turning it on incumbents who went against her.

Things may have changed outside of Congress, but they haven't changed enough inside Congress yet. This is a few weeks old but it's the most recent quote I can find from AOC on this (also, I'm including some stuff before her quote that I think I underscores the problem)

In stepping aside, Connolly has renewed the debate among Democrats of age and experience versus youth and energy in countering President Donald Trump’s agenda. He’s tapped Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., the third-most-senior Democrat on the committee, to serve as the interim ranking member. Younger members like Jasmine Crockett of Texas and Robert Garcia of California have expressed interest in taking over the role — but so has the 70-year-old Lynch.

Tellingly, Ocasio-Cortez said Tuesday that she wouldn’t be among those seeking the spot now that Connolly will be stepping down. “It’s actually clear to me that the underlying dynamics in the caucus have not shifted with respect to seniority as much as I think would be necessary,” she told reporters, saying that she’ll instead “be staying put at Energy and Commerce.”

She is no longer a member of this committee and switched to a different one after not getting the ranking member seat

And now there's a seat and a chair that needs replaced...

She can take the seat, then get the chair.

Like, I get what you're saying, it just doesn't matter.

We need a competent energetic person who understands today's media in this position. It's an incredibly important one. We can play another round of musical chairs, it's not even much of a hassle.

“Here’s how Bernie could still win”

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

She's said in the past she's no longer interested in it. I believe there was already a little back peddling a few weeks and she gave the impression she had moved on.

But she could always change her mind I suppose

Ah, that's good then.
