The rigging was mostly done on the TV screen via propaganda, not the ballot box.
Is it really hard to believe people are just stupid and elected a traitor? The see prices go up and immediately blame the incumbent. The anti-incumbency effect happened around the world, not just a US thing.
States run elections. Blue states also shifted red by double digits. Are you suggesting republicans can somehow rig blue state elections without anyone raising alarms?
People just are afraid, and with fear, they look for a strongman that makes good sounding promises, no matter how ridiculous they are. (although its funny that people still view trump as a "strongman" dude is old and fragile)
Republicans have decades of experience in shifting elections in their favor by means other than convincing voters. It really isn't unlikely. The USA should look into it. But the sort of sourceless and predigested meme OP posted is worse than useless here.
