Yeah he's correct in a way, the Dems have been doing liberal identity politics and culture wars while serving Wall Street, totally ignoring working class issues (including the working class LGBTQ community). Trans sports and bathrooms isn't the top concern for the your average working class individual struggling with bills. Trump was able to capitalize on this. Dems will totally miss the point though, instead of focusing on improving living conditions for the working class, they'll just go right and become anti-trans.

The worst thing the Dems do is adopt the language of a more revolutionary movement (trans inclusivity and acceptance being a big one) and shoehorn the demands of that movement into small incremental nothing changes. Things like "oh yay! Ivy League sports teams now have to allow trans athletes to use their locker room of choice" and similar small scale policy changes.

This serves to neuter the movement because people entering it see it as toothless because the original demands of restructuring the mentality of society to understand and innately recognize and tolerate these natural states of humanity become the equivalent of "we're giving a $5000 grant to small businesses that last 5 years in a minority community" type actions.

The danger of identity politics as practiced by the Dems is that's it prescriptive and demeaning instead of revolutionary and empowering.

I think this sentiment misses the mark too, because Democrats weren't exactly pushing a trans acceptance message either. Republicans literally started every single phase of the trans backlash, whether it was bathroom bills or women's sports, and the Dems have offered nothing in response, thus allowing the Reps to totally control the conversation because trans activists don't own a large enough microphone to effectively counter message against conservatives by themselves.

I think it comes from Democratic-aligned activists more than anything. Maybe more measures taken place at the municipal level too. National Dems have done fuck all

Yeah Dems got forced into opposition begrudgingly on trans issues (and gay issues). They've done the barest minium at arms length with their nose upturned in disgust.

(except for some occaisonal red state Democrats)

ya, as i recall the main democrat message was "we'll follow the law". not exactly championing anything there.
