Oh, so is this like doing ctrl+f2+r on gnome?

Not sure what that does in gnome, but in xorg you could save your X desktop status (windows open, placement etc) and restore it.

That saves a lot of time and effort for those that are working in something and want to poweroff their machines or like having a predetermined set of tools placed and open in your desktops.
