Conservatives have literally always been monarchists. The philosophy was founded on defending monarchy and aristocracy.
Some want a plutocratic oligarchy and others a fascist Christian republic, not everyone wants a king.
True. The core is power over others through rigid hierarchies of societal power, with each tier smaller than those below it, with morality and human value derived from one's tier. It's antithetical to any kind of meritocracy.
