It's funny that amidst EVERYTHING they've been called, "weird" is beyond the line.

I have to assume it's because it's less easily dismissed.

Call Donald Trump a pedophile and it's dismissed as extremism. Call him weird and that's not extreme language, so it helps focus on the behaviour being called weird instead of distracting people with the language being used.

Keep watching and you might notice this is part of a larger pattern with conservatives. It's related to the "every accusation is a confession" thing.
