Honestly it's hard to even get in the mood. Everything related to the 4th this year feels like satire.
I haven’t felt patriotic since the 90s. Every 4th feels like I’m surrounded by deluded people.
Call it what it is: nationalism. I've been weirded out by it since I stopped saying the pledge of allegiance in elementary school.
Fun fact: the pledge was created as part of a campaign to sell more flags to schools.
9/11 ruined it for me, specifically the “proud to be an American”, flag on cars garbage—while we passed the Patriot act and started more wars.
Yeah, patriotism always felt fucking weird as a kid growing up in the 90s.
