Same thing, probably even worse. Any other day than bday or celebratory days or holidays is a better moment to contact.
I did move abroad tho, and phone calls (or videochat) he has never been fond of. But we do write long intimate emails every (other) month/quarter.
He just hates getting all the nonsense on his bday ๐ I was the bad friend for not listening for 30 years. Not casually wishing him a happy day feels weird. Gonna text him soon, guess we just pick up where we left.
