A community for some conservative points of view. You can comment but not post articles, because there are bad-faith posters who want to post horrible content just to get people in trouble.

Rule 0: Serial downvoters who downvote out of hate and don't interact with the community will be banned.

For a more permissive community, go to [email protected]

πŸƒπŸŒ» Rule 1: Kindly be empathetic and kind to others. Trolling and spamming will not be tolerated. Making the community a friendly & supportive place is our goal.

All of us are here for a short lifetime. Let’s have a nice time here and avoid negativity. :)

Please be respectful, even if you don't agree.

Don't personally attack people. Don't call them names.

Be grown-ups.

The daily Mail is not a credible source

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Then feel free to start your own community and post from the sources you find credible. I like the Daily Mail.

Whether or not you like it is irrelevant to its credibility and accuracy. I like the lord of the rings. That doesn't mean it's a credible source of history.

Today I learned that wikipedia doesn't allow it as a source.

Support for the ban centred on "the Daily Mail's reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication"

That doesn’t mean it’s a credible source of history.

And just because you don't like it, doesn't mean they get everything wrong. They are one of the largest publications in the world, and they're not going away anytime soon.

I read it every day and I like it. All of it. I've forwarded tips to them for stories they can write. I've even been interviewed by them and have shown up in articles there. I have a great relationship with them.

My community. My sources. If you don't like, feel free to start your own community and post from your fav sources. :)

I didn't say they get everything wrong. They get enough wrong that they are not trustworthy. It's not about me just not liking it. The fact that you like it remains irrelevant to the larger questions of accuracy and trustworthiness. Their size and age are also irrelevant. This isn't just a matter of opinion like "do you prefer vanilla or strawberry ice cream".

You are doing yourself a disservice by reading disinformation that appeals to your feelings.

You can do what you like on your community, but what you're doing is hurting yourself. When you read bad sources and gain inaccurate information, and then act on that, you're more likely to make poor decisions.

Their size and age are also irrelevant.

Irrelevant to you. I like them and I will never ever stop posting from them.

Fun fact though: everytime I see someone advocating violence against Trump or CEO's (you sicko Luigi fans) here on Lemmy, I forward it to them, and the FBI. So it'll be fun seeing if they write an article about how pro-violence and pro-murder Lemmy is. The FBI actually called me after I gave them a tip, and then I let the Daily Mail know that the FBI is watching Lemmy for alt-left extremism.

I've had a few back-and-forths with the Daily Mail about it and I told the reporter how to actually navigate Lemmy, so we'll see what happens.

Just doing my part in making sure they have accurate information. Maybe we'll be able to see how much "disinformation" gets written about the goings-ons at Lemmy. Lemmy is so small and irrelevant, I doubt if any articles will come from it, but at least I did my part.

Wouldn't it be cool tho if they did an undercover thing on Lemmy? :)

It is okay, op likes it as a source.

I read it every single day! :)

This place is his own private pinterest now.

Correct! I want to keep the community on-topic and protected from manipulation.

I’ve seen other communities get targeted by bad-faith actors who flood them with off-topic or offensive posts using alternate accounts. Then those same people turn around and point to the content they themselves planted as justification to report or try to get the community shut down. It’s a sabotage tactic, and it works if moderation is too loose.

Now you all can't do that here.

That said, you’re absolutely free to create your own community and set the rules however you like. Lemmy thrives when people contribute more spaces and perspectives, so I’d support your effort if you go that route.

You should. I'm not being a jerk. I honestly think that rather than complain or be serial downvoters, that people should start up their own communities (or post their own articles if they find an open community the support).

Be the change you wanna see, rather than just hate on communities that you don't agree with.

The great thing about Lemmy is that it's easy to do your own thing. Diversity of opinions isn't a bug, it's a feature. You don't like conservative views. Ok, great. Then start a community that caters to the kinda stuff you do wanna see.

We all should be able to voice our opinions. Even if unpopular or niche. Since Lemmy is mostly anti-conservative anyway, your community will probably be popular, and you'll be doing your part to spread information that you think is needed.

That's a good thing, even if I personally probably won't agree with your content. I will agree with your right to post it though.

Awesome. I subscribed! You're in for an adventure. I'm not your enemy, as you'll find out.

Also, thank goodness I am not the only conservative community on here! So many people post that lemmy.today should be de-fed'd all because they don't like me.

So just some advice, tho you aren't asking. There may be people who try to post "nazi" posts, just to give your comm a bad name and make it look like you are a nazi. You have to check your community every single day, so if that happens, you can delete it ASAP.

The person that was doing it to me finally got banned from his instance, so hopefully there are no others or he doesn't have alts.

Also, you have a thick skin. There may be people that are saying you are an alt of me. Good luck and thank you for starting your own community! This is what makes Lemmy better!

I've posted to your community in good faith. Let me know if you would prefer me not to post there, and I can delete.
