The Muppet Movie (1979) is about Kermit living his best life in a swamp until a talent agent rowing through heard him sing and recommend he try his hand at a career in Hollywood.
So Kermit goes on a road trip and builds his Muppet family along the way, adding new Muppets as he befriends them. By the time they get to Hollywood, they're just a rag-tag group of misfits, looking for a chance at making a film. They're not professionals, they're not particularly skilled. They're just determined to live their dream and get their big break.
The movie itself is a film within a film. It's Kermit's autobiography, showing his whole journey to Hollywood. It literally opens with all of the Muppets sitting down in a theater to watch the film.
