A quality meme, wasted on someone completely unworthy.
Not everyone grew up consuming memes. Maybe if you call and explain it she'll understand and have a great laugh. Totally worthy then.
Metaphors are hardly a new device. Anyone who knows how to read above an elementary school level should readily understand metaphors and similes.
…and people who don’t understand things like that automatically but pose follow up questions and ask for help to try to understand are unworthy?

No, not unworthy at all. But there's also a wide divide between asking questions and actually seeking to understand. It's been my experience that many people have developed a questioning mechanism to mask/cover their embarrassment or willful ignorance, and those people don't care at all to learn the root lesson, they simply want to "win" whatever they perceive as an argument. Winning the conflict is more important than learning the new information. And socially, that process becomes exceedingly tedious.
As the quote goes, "I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you."
