Welcome to Lemmy.fan!

This instance succeeds on one simple mantra: Be kind, and do unto others as you have done to yourself. Consider for a moment that we’re ALL on the the same rapidly-spinning, mostly-watery orb, hurtling through space at fantastic speeds, and trading metal and paper for our livelihoods. The unknown will always dwarf the known. Learning never ends. We may be experts in something, but no one person is an expert in all things.

Given that, here our are very simple

And from the glowing reviews it's clear that

  1. W11 doesn't actually need a new PC to run and the limitations are completely artificial

  2. For many people, a ten years old PC is fast enough (or even faster than a brand new Intel N100 PC that is officially W11 compatible). They won't even notice that's something from 2015, as long it has a shiny new case, enough RAM and SSD

  3. Amazon doesn't care that the PC comes with pirated software, or that someone is scamming their customers, as long they get their 15% cut from marketplace sales (the cost of a genuine license of W11 pro and office exceeds the price of those ewaste specials)

Now arriving internationally from Japan.

Trailer:

Hot Spring Shark Attack

Via Metafilter:

Hot Spring Shark Attack had its world premiere last year at the Tokyo International Shark Film Festival and its US premiere recently at the Chattanooga Film Festival. Early reviews from Letterboxd, Bloody Disgusting, and Spooky Sarah Says. Evidently, it's back for this year's Tokyo festival too, {...}, plus Game of Shark, the third installment of the Ouija Shark franchise...

Which raises the question... are we going to do anything for Shark Week (July 20-28 IIRC)?

I WAS going to also show Kommissar Rex, but it's a bit too long plus the episode I uploaded is WAY more dark than I realized and probably not appropriate for Friday TV stuff. We can watch another time if people are really interested.

CW for Columbo: Murder, but I don't think there's much else to worry about afaik.

CW for Furuhata Ninzaburo: Haven't seen it, but murder seems to be the only concern.

ALSO, this will probably be the last Columbo night for awhile considering the episodes are starting to feel a tad samey and I'm feeling that people might want to switch it up a bit. My best idea for what to replace it with is... Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger, which is a pretty funny and entertaining Super Sentai (Power Rangers) parody centered on 3 nerds who are out of touch with reality. Features lots of silly humor and cool monster battles.

I'm totally open to other ideas though if anyone has any, so let me know in the comments if you do.

We'll be streaming here: https://blorp.bot.nu/o/visual_cuisine

French City of Lyon Kicks Out Microsoft

European countries have been growing increasingly wary of relying on Microsoft for critical government and public sector services. Concerns about data privacy, digital sovereignty, and potential governmental surveillance have led many to question the viability of depending on an American tech giant for sensitive infrastructure.

Many worry that dependence on Microsoft could leave them vulnerable to sudden service interruptions or the risk of sensitive data being accessed without consent.

This growing unease has already led Denmark to begin transitioning from Office 365 to LibreOffice, while the German state of Schleswig-Holstein recently abandoned Microsoft Teams and started the shift from Windows to Linux.

And now, another European region is jumping on the "Ditch Microsoft" bandwagon.

Microsoft Software is a No-Go

French City of Lyon Kicks Out MicrosoftA translated version of the announcement by the city of Lyon.

The French city of Lyon has taken a major step toward digital sovereignty by officially starting a move away from Microsoft software. . The city is gradually set to replace Microsoft Office with open source alternatives like ONLYOFFICE and switch from Windows to Linux-based operating systems to reduce dependency on proprietary offerings.

Coinciding with this, they have launched the Territoire Numérique Ouvert (TNO), an open source collaborative platform developed with the Métropole de Lyon and the SITIV.

TNO integrates tools such as Jitsi for video conferencing, Nextcloud paired with ONLYOFFICE for document sharing and co-editing, Zimbra for email, Chamilo for online training, and Matrix for instant messaging.

According to the official statement, TNO is already being used by thousands of employees across several local governments in France. All its services are hosted in regional data centers located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to ensure full control over public data and meet national digital sovereignty standards.

The project has received €2 million in funding from the Agence Nationale de la Cohésion des Territoires (ANCT).

💬 What do you think of this move? Do you expect more European countries to follow suit?

So the USA is turning into a fascist military dictatorship because of capitalism and misinformation campaigns swaying voters etc. etc. How do you (as a USian or not) view what is going to happen in the immediate-to-near future regarding civil liberties & disobedience, especially the current secret police and/or ICE (just getting a big, beautiful budget increase to unbeforeseen heights); and also thinking civil war and outside intervention?

For me, the current situation seems hopeless for the state. The bipartisan system is in its core a laughable excuse for an actual functioning democracy (then again are there any real democracies in the capitalist world?), as both parties are controlled by the same organizations and lobbyists, with governmental administration occasionally changing hands from one to the other only to unmake what little "progress" the currently "progressives" had made last time they were in the administration, forming but a pittance of what the people actually want. But the current administration seems to be too much akin to the Italian fascists or the German NSDAP of yore, and its attempts to control all media too see-through for some, who mostly seem to be in the bluer (richer and thus more better off) states. I think this stark divide between the population will be the force that rips the nation apart, as most people in the bluer more progressive states probably aren't as big on the secret police appearing unmarked and unannounced and armed, ready to take people away to concentration camps in undisclosed places in foreign nations in unmarked vans as the people of the redder and more conservative states seem to be.

So the question becomes how will the people react? Civil disobedience probably sounds nice right up until they start gunning those disobeying down, and deploying the National Guard and Marines against them (which I think might be unconstitutional there? not sure though because it happened already). The US Armed Forces apparently have 1.3 million active members (without a draft mind you) and even though there are people in this group who aren't as morally bankrupt as the administration is atm, I think they'd still have enough members positioned around the world in enough places that there isn't a single force in the world to oppose it willingly and easily. I bring this up because if (or when) push comes to shove and the civil disobedience in the blue states becomes too much for DJ Dump and his christofascist capitalism buddies, and they start driving their military might against their own people with increasing force, who will be there to come in to save the (non-militant minded) people? I think the US administration would consider this a declaration of war, and respond to it as such. So as I see it the US is on a surefire highway ~~to the danger zone~~ to Civil War part II: Electric Boogaloo, and in the end will either rip itself apart or pull the entirety of the western (NATO) countries to war with it. So thank god my country just got in! Wouldn't wanna miss this one, boys!

Anyway post your prophecies on the manifesting destiny of the US below, we'll eventually see who got it right.
