This shouldn't be depressing; it means the cost advantage that renewables have is causing them to displace fossil fuel use, at least at a national level in the US. There's the potential for that to start happening globally over the next year.

I don't actually know; try asking Christopher Webb whom I think created it.

Context:

Trump is following. He’s trying to pretend otherwise but he’s following. And unlike all of Trump’s other bad hires or hires he gets tired of, he can’t just shitcan Musk. Musk is worth hundreds of billions of dollars. He’s got a bigger megaphone. And he’s got his own brand. I’m pretty sure there will eventually be a really big and really ugly falling out between the two of them. But it will take a while to get there and the costs are potentially quite large for both of them.

Trump has sewn himself into a sack with Elon Musk, a few billion dollars, a cat and a snake, and had the sack tossed into the Tiber. That’s the story here. And it will go on for a while.

Same for people who don't live near an airport. There are a lot of planes up there. Not to mention Venus, Jupiter, stars, and the neighbor's kid flying a toy drone.

I'm not terribly surprised; he's been doing neo-nazi dog whistles for several years, and became explicit about it over a year ago.

The problem is that something like 90% of the offsets are fake like this, and of the remaining ones, another 90% have a mismatch between how long gases emitted raise atmospheric concentrations and how long the offset lowers them for.

The EU and China have both done it repeatedly when it makes sense for them.

This doesn't have measures; it's designed to create a situation where other countries are inclined to penalize the US for not meeting this goal.

Sale of raw milk is legal in California, and the cows are widely infected. Bird flu is showing up in sewage in most of the state, which suggests that there are likely to be a whole bunch more infected people who don't realize what they have.

The Senate could of course do the right thing and refuse to confirm Kennedy or any of the people in his orbit. Not that I expect the Republicans who will be in the majority to do the right thing.
