Optics matter.

Y'all are why people hate the fediverse.

This is a case where it seems the elite consensus drove a change in culture whereas the gay marriage thing seems to have only happened once it became a norm across society.

What's the context?

This argument is pointless. Neither of you is right. Arguing for or against optics is pointless.

I don't think you can use gpl for anything but code. Creative commons license would be more appropriate.

Consent isn't legally required if it's fair use. Whether it's fair use remains to be ruled on by the courts.

The thing is I use reddit mostly for fun stuff. I took out a lot of the political stuff that was getting me down. There's not nearly as many niche cute cat subs or active hobbyist game subs on lemmy.

The /c/unions community kept getting non union general labor interest posts and shockingly there are not really many general labor focused communities on Lemmy. So I've made one here.

Friends:

This isn't an official announcement for this community. But cyu posts a lot of stuff to the [email protected] instance so I figured it was good to let ya'll know.

Friends:

Hey I have had to remove my first post for being off topic. I really appreciate everyone who contributes here to this community. There's a ton of content and that's great! But I want to make sure we stay on topic, and focus on Unions, unionization efforts etc. I don't want the community to slowly turn into another generic "leftist/labor politics" community.

All posts must be about Unions in some direct way. It is not enough to merely say the subject of the link or post is in the same interests as those of Unions or labor politics. Everything is connected to everything at some level, so that just doesn't fly at some point.

I just realized that lemmy doesn't have karma like reddit. I've never paid much attention to karma. But even so it does seem to play an important role in moderation on reddit.

For instance, many subs put a karma restriction on who can post which helps decrease trolls.

And while it's true that karma gives an incentive for people to seek karma I think it's overall regulatory principle might be worth considering as a trade off.
