I noticed they cut to Taylor after this catch but not after the one Kelce dropped

Biden can do it, but present it differently. He could say that "Yes, this is an abuse of power, but I have every right to do this under the Constitution, and nobody can do anything about it. If you don't like it, pass an amendment to limit presidential powers. No one should be above the law."

From what I have read, he was looking to avoid a trial. The last trial had some rather embarrassing details come out about his life while on drugs, and this trial might have included his kids as well.

Earlier today, it was reported that he was trying to plead to some weird condition where he still denied the charges, but admitted there was enough evidence to convict so they should just skip the trial and go straight to the sentencing. I guess the judge wasn't having any of that.

What's better is that, thanks to Elon Musk, "STINKY" is the default name for its Starlink wifi. These people didn't even change that.

Here's an interesting bit:

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/09/05/us/trump-election-interference-hearing/jack-smith-shows-flashes-of-emotion-as-trumps-election-case-returns-to-court?smid=url-share

Sitting in a row with other Justice Department officials behind the counsel table, he [Jack Smith] smiled broadly when John Lauro, a lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump, said offhandedly that he had yet to address his plan to file a motion challenging the legality of the special counsel.

Mr. Smith emphatically nodded his head in agreement several times after the presiding judge, Tanya S. Chutkan, interrupted Mr. Lauro when he suggested that the Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas had directed Mr. Trump’s lawyers to raise the issue. Judge Chutkan interrupted, and said, β€œHe directed you to do that?”

Now, we may find that the lawyer was exaggerating a bit. But if it turns out that Thomas somehow reached out to the Trump legal team and said "Hey, I wrote this thing specifically to get you off the hook, use it", wouldnt that be a Big Fucking Deal?

In addition to all of the very good advice in this thread, I will add I am a big fan of Dollar Cost Averaging. If you have a large amount to put into the market, don't put it in to whatever fund you decide all at once, put it in on a monthly basis. This protects you, to some extent, from the market taking a dump the day after you buy, because you are always buying. And your cost at the end is an average of all the times you bought in, and is not so much tied to prices on the day you bought in.

This may involve some planning for moving money around, because you will want to keep the remainder in a good HYSA in the meantime.

Except the one who gets the Nobel Prize for proving it

Is it just me, or does he seem to be a bit thinner? Ordinarily I would say that is a good sign for his health, but coupled with this obvious mental decline I wonder if he has really bad PTSD and isn't eating or sleeping well.

I would have some sympathy for him as a human. Except, you know, he wouldn't have any for anyone not named Trump.

He would have to caucus with one side or another, otherwise he would get no committee assignments. He would likely stick with Democrats, though, since Democrats ran no candidate against him and if he caucused with Republicans he would likely face a primary challenge for his next term regardless.

They don't have a link to the actual form the counties want to distribute, but when Republicans get tweaked over this, it's usually because they are using the Federal mail-in form. They ask on that form that people simply check a box to indicate they are US citizens and are thus eligible to vote. Since it's a mail-in form, they don't ask to include any other proof of citizenship (although first-time registrants do need to submit proof of residence). But, they do note on the form that submitting a form with a false declaration is a crime, and if a non-citizen does it they would be subject to deportation.

If Paxton is so sure non-citizens are registering to vote in droves, all he has to do is investigate these forms as they come in, as any non-citizen who fills it out can immediately have the book thrown at them. The fact that he doesn't means that even he knows non-citizens are not doing this. It makes no sense to risk being kicked out of the country just to vote in a system where you can't fully participate. The risk is just too high.
