This discussion was mostly casual. They agreed on mostly everything.

The most heated disagreement they had was on the participation of Jewish people in anti-Zionist movements.

BadEmpanada says that he has a term "Jewish Exceptionalism". I think he said that he made this term up. He says that by focusing on the opinions of Jewish people in the anti-Zionism movement gives the appearance that the opinions of Jewish people matter more.

Hasan said that Jewish Anti-Zionist groups are important because it shows uninitiated people that the Jewish religion and Zionism are separate entities. Hasan says it's not intended to say that the opinions of Jewish people matters more.

Historically they were not known to be friends. There was a internet drama, "reactgate", "chairgate". Twitter was debating whether it's ethical for react streamers to make money from watching videos made by other people.

There was one time when Hasan put on a youtube video of a small youtuber and went to go to the bathroom. This wasn't really like a normal scenario for Hasan. At the time he was known, excessively pausing during videos. Watching a video and pausing and commenting over it is generally considered to be protected by "fair use" in terms of Copyright law. The small youtuber was upset. Hasan apologized. D*stiny fans created a larger drama out of it.

During this same period, Badempanada chose to take the position against react streamers. He said that react streamers are stealing labor value from other video makers or something. I think he has changed his position to be more lenient as long as the commentary of the reactor adds new value and also he likes that he's getting more subscribers when people react to his videos.

For this reason they avoided each other. They have made a truce in the past year. I think Badempanada was banned from twitch. Hasan only streams on twitch. This video from today is basically the first time they've talked publicly together

I've played 2 hours of the stream. It has been very casual. There's no heated moments. They have very light criticisms of each other. Hasan thinks that Badempanada scares people because he doxes his enemies on twitter. Badempanada thinks Hasan should leave the US because the political situation is getting too bad.

So I watched the whole video now. He says that the dropped out of university 2 years ago to live in the woods. Luke is a total Ted Kaczynski guy. I remember Luke used to make memes about Ted. Luke was an academic who spent years studying linguistics before deciding to live in the woods and now blames "wokeness" or whatever term he uses for that. Ted was also an academic who moved to the woods and in his manifesto blamed socialists and "political correctness" for problems in society. There's a lot of similarities. Luke wants to be Ted.

The funniest thing about Luke Smith is that he's a far right 4chan guy but he studies linguistics for a university, so he constantly has to read and cite Chomsky in his work.

It seems absurd but every right wing politician is talking about it right now. If all of right wing media and politicians are talking about it. And DHS announced that they are investigating. Then it seems like a notable story despite being absurd.

Bonus absurdity. People are posting on twitter that May 15, 2025 is 8647 days after September 11, 2001.

I think this is a spectacle similar to the Biden administration. The Biden team would try to create a false public appearance that they were pressuring Israel, while always giving Israel free rein.

Earlier this morning, Trump told Qatar that the US should take Gaza and make it into a "Freedom Zone".

The US claims that China is shipping "fentanyl precursors", like ingredients to make fentanyl. The US basically says that China is selling kits to make fentanyl. I saw one US politician compare fentanyl precursors to cake mix.

Starting about 5 hours ago, Grok started saying that mentions of "white genocide" and "kill the boer" was due to a glitch.

The thing that China is upset about is being blamed for the US Fentanyl problem and the additional 20% tariff. "Despite the goodwill China has shown, the U.S. wrongly slapped tariffs on Chinese imports by citing the issue of fentanyl." "The move has dealt a heavy blow to China-U.S. dialogue and cooperation on counternarcotics, and gravely hurt China’s interests."

I changed my post title to match the articles from China as to not editorialize. I still think the post is important.

I'm trying to make sense of the articles. I originally watched the press conference livestreamed this morning.

If I am interpreting it correctly, China thought both side had agreed to 10% tariffs at the Geneva talks. The US had originally imposed the 20% Fentanyl tariff on February 1. "Lin made the remarks in an answer to a question about the U.S. imposing 20 percent tariffs on China under the pretext of the fentanyl issue after the Geneva talks." The way that it is worded in the CGTN article and in the tweet seems as if China had not expected the US to continue imposing the Fentanyl tariff after the Geneva talks.

The tweet and the articles say that "countermeasures remain in effect". This statement contradicts what is written in the US-China Joint statement on May 12, which says China will "remove the non-tariff countermeasures taken against the United States since April 2, 2025". It seems as though China has now decided to keep countermeasures in effect because of the 20% Fentanyl tariff. I am not sure what the countermeasures are.

Linux in popular culture? Stallman invented the culture. He created the system which runs most web servers in the world. Stallman created GPL, which is arguably the most influential software license in history. Stallman invented "open source" 13 years before open source was even a term. Free Software Foundation was founded in 1985, Open Source Initiative was not founded until 1998.

The license that Stallman created is what forces companies to release the source code of their products. You ever seen the "open source" page on the Apple website? That's because Stallman's GPL requires them to release the code of the GPL softwares that they use.

The reason that Stallman's vision of software freedom has been suppressed is because it hurts company profits. Capitalists suppressed the GNU ideology because they wanted to make GNU/Linux into a profitable concept. Capitalists don't want you to have freedom over your computer software.

Stallman is very upset the he doesn't get enough credit for creating GNU. Most "Linux" desktops use GNU as the base system. Linux is the kernel. Stallman created GNU in the 1980s with the express intention of creating an Operating System which gave users total control over the computer. He was radicalized by printer drivers. Stallman's philosophy emphasizes have freedom over technology.

In the 1990s, Linus Torvalds created the Linux kernel. Linus doesn't necessarily care about freedom, he stated that the purpose of Linux was to have a OS which doesn't cost money. At the start of the 1990s, Linux was a kernel without an OS and GNU was a OS without a kernel. People started to combine the 2 together, which was illegal to distribute at the time because the GNU license says that it's only allowed to be distributed with other software under a FOSS license. It wasn't until 1993 that Linus Torvalds applied the GNU license to the Linux kernel, allowing the GNU system and the Linux kernel to be distributed together for the first time.

Slackware is the oldest distro and refers to itself as a "Linux" despite using the GNU system. Debian is also among the first distros and refers to itself as "GNU/Linux". Android phone OS is an example of a system that uses the Linux kernel without the GNU system.

Stallman is really obnoxious about emphasizing that people should care about freedom. I think that's why he tries to insert the word GNU into everything.

Transcript of what Tim Pool says

Many of the news organizations that are represented in this room have marched in lockstep on false narratives, such as: the Very Fine People Hoax, the Covington Smear, and now what is being called the Maryland Man Hoax.

Where, an MS-13 gang member adjudicated by 2 different judges is simply being referred to as a Maryland Man over and over again. Now in an effort for the White House to expand access to new companies, you've created this new media seat.

So following this expansion, you've had numerous outlets disparage the companies you've had sit here. I'm wondering if you can comment on the unprofessional behavior, as well as if there are any plans to expand access to new companies.

The Trump administration has been platforming Patty Morin to say that immigrants should be deported without due process.

The children of murdered Maryland mother Rachel Morin are suing their own family members, claiming they have not received any money from crowdfunding efforts, according to our media partners at The Baltimore Banner.

Morin was found murdered in August 2023, along the Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County.

A GoFundMe page to pay for Morin's funeral and support her children raised tens of thousands of dollars. However, in a lawsuit filed in the Harford County Circuit Court, the children said they have yet to see any of that money, the Banner reported.

According to the Banner, the lawsuit says Morin's children, between the ages of 8 and 19, also have not received any proceeds from four restaurant fundraisers held on their behalf.

The lawsuit alleges Morin's mother, Patty, and sister, Rebekah, have kept the money for themselves.

Spokesman for DPRK Foreign Ministry Issues Press Statement

Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK released the following press statement titled "The most depraved country in the world is not entitled to take issue with other countries" on Feb. 2:

Recently, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio, in an interview with media, talked nonsense by terming the DPRK a "rogue state" while enumerating the foreign policy of the new U.S. administration.

The Foreign Ministry of the DPRK deems the U.S. State Secretary's hostile remarks to thoughtlessly tarnish the image of a sovereign state as a grave political provocation totally contrary to the principle of international law which regards respect for sovereignty and non-interference in other's internal affairs as its core and strongly denounces and rejects it.

In view of Rubio's political inclination and the U.S. inveterate repugnancy towards the DPRK, his speech is nothing new, and it would be more surprising if he had said good word about the DPRK.

But it is necessary to mention how absurd and illogical it is that the most depraved state in the world brands another country a rogue state.

The hostile words and deeds of the person who is in charge of the U.S. foreign policy served as an occasion of confirming once again the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK which remains unchanged.

Rubio's coarse and nonsensical remarks only show directly the incorrect view of the new U.S. administration on the DPRK and will never help promote the U.S. interests as he wishes.

We will never tolerate any provocation of the U.S., which has been always hostile to the DPRK and will be hostile to it in the future, too, but will take tough counteraction corresponding to it as usual. -0-
