I didn't know that aspect. Thanks for sharing.

Ammonia was first manufactured using the Haber process on an industrial scale in 1913 in BASF's Oppau plant in Germany, reaching 20 tonnes/day in 1914.[12] During World War I, the production of munitions required large amounts of nitrate. The Allied powers had access to large deposits of sodium nitrate in Chile (Chile saltpetre) controlled by British companies. India had large supplies too, but it was also controlled by the British.[13] Moreover, even if German commercial interests had nominal legal control of such resources, the Allies controlled the sea lanes and imposed a highly effective blockade which would have prevented such supplies from reaching Germany. The Haber process proved so essential to the German war effort[5][14] that it is considered virtually certain Germany would have been defeated in a matter of months without it. Synthetic ammonia from the Haber process was used for the production of nitric acid, a precursor to the nitrates used in explosives.

I didn't know that, neat!

Yes! But the joke seems to be that he's describing literal darkness, and then pivots to disturbing darkness.

s/lunar eclipse/new moon/

Lunar eclipses turn the moon a ruddy red color. New moon (opposite of a full moon) is darker.

Quarto is probably the most unique one I've seen so far. Thanks for the input.

Hi,

I'm interested in setting up a small static-site-generator site. Looked at 11ty recently and feel pretty uncomfortable with the amount of javascript and "funny language" churn just to make some html happen.

Do you know of any alternative that's simpler / easier / less complicated dependencies? Or do you have an approach to 11ty that you think I should try?

Thanks in advance for any input, it's appreciated!

Just got my Saturn 4 ultra, and it just doesn't seem to be very good. I'm toying with the idea of sending it back and paying the restocking fee, but that's a lot of money (and shipping fuel, etc, etc) to waste.

Upgraded from a Mars 2 Pro and Mars 4, and I just can't believe how clunky the Saturn is. The build plate is too tall and too crammed into the case to make a decent tilting adapter, and a ton of resin gets wasted when removing parts. The touchscreen UI is almost as bad as the Mars 4, with horrible use of screen space (multiple prints with same name but different date at the end? Too bad, you can't see any part of the title past the first two words) and poorly designed features.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has this printer or a similar one figured out, and is actually enjoying using it.

Openscad wanted about 25 gig of RAM to crunch this.

Hi,

I have a tiny newsfeed community here on SDF. We got a spam comment by another user registered on the instance. Looking at the account, all it does is link spam. Is there a process to flagging the account for moderation at the instance level, rather than flagging to block in individual communities?

Account in question: https://lemmy.sdf.org/u/dordle12

And remember.. it's not a race!

Started this morning. All of my personal tools like nextcloud and RSS reader were blocked, and I had to go manually override that screen for each one. Unacceptable.

Edit: I found it, apparently the list isn't ordered line-by-line, and sdfpubnix was just crammed beside another community name!

I'm not sure if that's a bug or not. I'm joined to the community, but for some reason it doesn't show up in the list with the other ones. Has this happened for anyone else?

To get here I currently click on @SDF in the "about us" sidebar, and then click sdfpubnix in that account's moderated communities list...

Hi,

When posting animated images, I see that the file is converted into .webm, but no thumbnail is generated. I'm curious if that's just me, or the case for others, or intentional.

I had a notification on the bell icon, and when clicking to open context for the item it returns a server error. Just FYI for the SDF crew.
