If Dems all act eager to act on Trump's actually good promises (untaxed tips for instance), it'll bite the GOP that much more when he backs out of those promises

This is the answer. People straight up just didn't show up. Dems lost races they could've won because too many people just said fuck it after enough crap from this campaign. I'm in AZ, after the election I'm finding out quite a few people I know just didn't go.

Remember that he went off the rails on Truth Social about the 25th amendment basically ranting about the chain of command when the president is incapacitated. It seemed like a weird one but I remember reading it and my first thought was "He found out his people are gonna throw him out with a dementia diagnosis."

To support this counterpoint, this is exactly the headline my moron coworker would click and MAYBE get corrected in his stance on fluoridated water

The super misogynist manosphere influencers Trump went on a big run of interviews with make the big difference here. So many highly toxic GenZ males because of shit bags like that and A LOT of young non-white men listen to those podcasts and watch those videos

I would note that she stopped separating from Biden when she got the Cheney endorsement and swung hard to the right. That's where the campaign momentum died.

Plenty of people probably went "fuck fast food is getting too expensive, better start cooking" and then went to the grocery store, bought less food than they expected, then they also had to motivate to cook at home.

When everyone is getting fucked so hard at the grocery, it's easier to see why people stick to fast food if they also like the convenience.

I've been joking since she won her primary that she's going to lose because even the Dems in AZ are sexists who like veterans.

The race is narrower than I would've expected because Harris's right-wing heelturn fucked the down ballot races. I genuinely believe that lowered turnout in big numbers

The only messaging problem was taking the momentum of the debate and shitting on it with the right-wing heelturn the moment the Cheneys said "never Trump".

Even with them parading the Cheneys, I could understand a close loss after a week in the courts or just SOMETHING. Instead she lost so hard, she was conceding the next day. I kinda just gotta go what the fuck?

I got such a bad sinking feeling when they pivoted so hard right, but I genuinely thought Trump talking like a fucking lunatic might actually scare enough people into action and make it a close race.

Yep, non-voters were a much bigger problem for Harris

I get you're trying to do, but it's almost disrespectful to say royalty is made up. Whether their grounds for ruling is still or not. Monarchies have had very, very lasting impacts on the world around us, almost never for the better. Going "Oh hahaha, look at them and their silliness" when many monarchs actively ruined countries, feels a little dismissive.

I seriously cannot have any degree of nuanced conversation here.

Like I get it, we all know capitalism is bad, but it feels like every time I or anyone go towards discussing the steps that need to be taken to address current looming problems in the short term, someone has to jump in and shut it down with "capitalism bad >:[ " and tear down any idea presented because its not complete and total destruction of the current economic model.

The result just feels like an echo chamber where no actual solutions get presented other than someone posting whole ass dissertations on their 33-step (where 30/33 steps are about as vague as "we'll just handle it") plan to fully convert the world to an anarchist commune.

Edit: I still vastly prefer Lemmy and the fediverse and a whole, my complaint here is that many of you are TOO INTENSE. You blow up small scale discussion.
