I see people saying this but without evidence that proves putting a limit on fundraising would actually allow more people to be helped overall, we are just deciding what to do based off of vibes/what sounds right. Personally, I don’t think that’s good enough when considering such a serious rule change.

especially since the admins couldn't give exceptions without effectively endorsing the fundraiser, which they understandably don't want to do.

For sure, it seems pretty far out of scope to expect mods here to decide who is and who isn’t entitled to extra help. I know leaving it up to the discretion of those giving poses it’s own problems, but I think it’s better (or at least more manageable) overall.

I was just reading and upvoting occasionally up to this point, but I am strongly opposed to a $100 limit (or any financial limit for that matter) and feel I need to directly say so.

There was a time a few years ago where my wife and I were very close to homelessness. We asked in a mutual aid channel of a discord server I sometimes participated in (similar vibe to here, effectively anonymous, mostly just people asking for cash if they need it and giving cash when they can), and thanks to a few very generous people we were able to raise $600. She’s immunocompromised and diabetic, it would have been the two of us and a cat with no car, unable to find work, no way to store insulin, no way to buy insulin, almost certainly unable to mask effectively during a pandemic, and with no friends or family we could turn to. We needed every penny of that money and, through sheer luck and several close calls, managed to avoid the worst case scenario and have now gotten back to a fairly stable living situation.

If there had been a $100 asking limit I am certain that reality would have come to pass and we would not be where we are now. I cannot see any way in which any limit on how much people can ask for will actually, provably help anyone, but I can easily imagine a scenario where a limit endangers or kills people, our comrades and our loved ones.

I played a like 3 hours of old Oblivion recently and it just made me want to play Morrowind again. So now I’m playing Morrowind as an Argonian conjurer. I’m also playing Super Metroid for the first time, it’s a pretty cool game so far! The controls are kinda messing me up after playing Zero Mission first, but I’m getting used to it. My wife was saying I should just play the Redux hack but I’m stubborn and want to play it normally first.

Specifically June 5th at midnight Japan time, so effectively June 4th for a lot of people

Any time I’m outside, I’m masking. The only time it comes off for me is to eat lunch at work and I basically hide way in the back of an alley behind my building where people rarely go, which even that I don’t like doing but I have to eat. Aerosols can stay in the air for hours and travel far, plus I live/work in a city so there’s not really anywhere I can go where I know for certain someone wasn’t there recently.

I played through Deltarune Chapter 1 again and will be playing Chapter 2 soon in preparation of Chapters 3 & 4 releasing next month. I'm really excited, Undertale is my favorite game ever and Deltarune is on track to surpass it for me. Still though, I'm trying not to get my expectations too high lol. Otherwise, my roommate bought a guitar controller for Rock Band and is okay with me using it, so I spent a few hours tonight playing Guitar Hero II in an emulator. I never played this one, but I was addicted to Guitar Hero III as a kid, and this one is definitely hooking me too.

I work in a popular children’s arcade in my city and see dozens if not hundreds of different unmasked kids a day and yet I never get sick and am reasonably sure I have never had covid. My unmasked coworkers sure get sick a lot though!

Sorry you keep getting infected but you’re wrong about it being unavoidable. Maybe you’re doing something wrong or maybe you are just really unlucky or something, I don’t know, but respirators work. IIRC even when they fail to prevent an infection, they help reduce the severity of illness since they reduce viral load, but I’d have to do some digging for the source on that. In any case, the science supports masking to reduce the spread of covid.

Mostly Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate lately. I got Pretendo set up so I can do online lobbies at some point but I’m not sure when that will actually happen. I also started Metroid Prime a week ago but haven’t played it since… I keep thinking about it but then losing motivation.
