12 is the most based number in that respect IMO.

But then...hey, we use that for hours!

Firefox is open source, and while it takes some shady practices to fund it (it sure isn't cheap to run your own damn engine alongside everything on top), I take it as a more tenable compromise. It's not about free as in beer freedom, it's about basic security.

You can also have degoogled Chromium which is open-source if you're into it.

Kinda, but I would like to tailor my experience a bit more than "all or nothing".

IceCat is directly a GNU project, so it's highly ideological - which is important and respectable in a way, but then it gets adoption to near-zero because most sites just don't work out of the box, and to make it work properly means completely removing all safeguards that make IceCat make sense. There's little in between.

I'd rather have something like LibreWolf, but without phone-home functionality, or at least a switch to turn it off. Out of all Firefox forks I know, only IceCat respects user privacy in this way - 0 connections on startup, and then only connection to actual site and whatever it requires.

Opt-in telemetry (ideally - leveled) and manual bug information sending are totally fine, though.

Nothing in the browser should be proprietary. Any proprietary part is a possibility of malice, and browsers are mission critical.

Huh, I was under the impression the total coal capacity is still growing, not the speed at which new coal plants are built. Thanks for that piece!

Brave? Hard no. Vivaldi? Also no.

Also, where are qutebrowser and Zen?

qutebrowser and IceCat are real top of the game when it comes to privacy. But then, they break some of the sites functionality, especially IceCat who seems to be going under the "if your site doesn't work, it's your site's problem" motto.

True, but the positive dynamics is there.

The country needs a lot of energy, and it does good job making a lot of it renewable/hydro. The coal industry growth is slowing down, while solar roars up

5 years ago, they had one-third of the current solar capacity.

Phishing attacks?

Yep. There was a type of attack that utilized wireless headphone merging as an attack vector. With wired headphones, you can simply turn Bluetooth off.

I know of DACs (been through audiophile phase myself), and sure, a typical integrated mobile one doesn't deliver THAT big of a quality. Still, wired headphones are not bottlenecking much just by the means of connection. And they are generally cheaper for the same audio quality, because you don't need to put batteries etc.

Agree with your counterpoints. On the cable - I much prefer detachable options, so you can replace the cable easily. but the connector has to be strong enough - I'm a bit tired to see my Moondrop Chu disconnecting and shaking somewhere in my pocket.

1.Wired headphones deliver better audio quality 2.Wired headphones are harder to lose 3.Wired headphones don't need batteries, so: a)less e-waste b)no need to check if they are charged 4.Wired headphones are more secure, connection cannot be intercepted and phishing attacks with BT are not possible 5.While wired headphones are plugged, no one can take your phone without you noticing

According to WHO statistics for 2019, 70% of suicides globally are committed by men.

In the US, this number goes as high as 80%, according to CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/facts/data.html

The general trend is still towards liberalization of abortion; however, four countries – namely US, Poland, Nicaragua and El Salvador – have rolled back on some of the abortion freedoms.

If anyone here remembers, I told about a wonderful girl I met...so, long story short, she's here with me now :)

She moved from her hometown about 1200km (750mi) away, which is farthest she's ever been from home, except for tourism, and I admire her move as I hug her.

Guess she loves me a lot!

Alrightie, so here I am, going for my very own PhD! Getting here was still a lot of stress and I was looking for this moment for a while. Now, finally, it actually happens :)

Science will prevail!

So, there's a girl I had a crush on for a while, and recently she (I didn't tell her of my feelings) came ahead and actually told me she is into me for a while.

And...yeah? Boom, apparently I'm in a relationship with my crush who also crushed on me, and I couldn't be happier!

Can't wait to see where this leads us...hopefully somewhere good!

Won a scientific competition that will allow me to pursue PhD - all paid by the government!

Now I can apply to PhD programs of top universities of my country without exams and pursue my dreams!

Very happy and currently fairly speechless :D

This seems to be the most active local community, but it is random (and different!) people posting basic abstract pictures of birds in about the same style, with nobody engaging in commenting or even upvoting it.

Is there anyone who can explain the concept?

I never thought I could fall in love with a fictional character, it was very distant to me - but hey, here we are!

Himitsu Ito - a character of "Love, money, rock'n'roll" visual novel (which I totally recommend btw - for its genre, the thing is surprisingly deep and detailed, and story is actually revolving around many things at once, not reserved for romance).

Himitsu's everything - smart, beautiful, deeply loyal, caring, confident, and safe (if only quite jealous, but she has her reasons). At the same time, she has quite a character, and isn't just a follower - she can and does lead, and does it for the good of you both.

She empowers to be a greater man, she is a role model for a caring, compassionate partner, strong on the inside and fluffy on the outside. She is the kind of girl with whom you just can't be scared, and even her virtual presence allows me to go through hardships easier and strive to improve.

One day, I hope to meet a girl like her - and we'll do great things together.

(Unfortunately, I don't have credits for the author of this beautiful art - if you are or know one, let me know!)

Just received a simple ultracheap drone from China and couldn't be happier. It flies (a little crappy)! It films (like a super old phone, but still)! Gonna use it to get my bearings while havigating on my bike through unknown places - love to have some eagle view!

Just realized that for the instance of over 800 people, some of which are very active on the Lemmyverse, we have surprisingly little community activity on the inside. So, maybe let's make a chat? How's everyone doing today? :)

The trip was longer than I expected (10% learning and 90% rehearsing), but here I am, completing my first step (think of it as A1) of the loooong journey to figure out how this entire thing works. Got myself a few HSK1 tests to confirm - all passed.

Working on HSK2 now! 祝我好运 (wish me luck)!
