Can't stress enough that most of the freedoms right wingers are trying to protect are your freedoms to obey and support the rich.

It's important to reference this old chestnut in times like this:

The Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

This applies to human behavior on this medium, not the machines and services themselves. So, the more service providers tighten their grip, the more users slip through their fingers. Short of that, people can also just adopt new slang to circumvent automated censorship mechanisms.

Of course he does this after the election.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Or you could do something proactive.

why post an insubstantiated claim instead of just screenshotting the grok response? I want to believe this but it seems completely made up

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What more does the Grok response provide? The response itself is made up. Ask the LLM the same question 5 times and you will get 5 different answers.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It provides evidence of the claim.

I understand that a simple first-hand account doesn't require evidence, but this isn't even that. The post doesn't say "I asked Grok this and this is what it said", it's literally "people" who supposedly asked it and supposedly got answers like that. Who? How many? What kind of responses exactly?

It combines lack of evidence/sources with hearsay, like what even is information worth at that point.

Why the fuck is anyone still using Twitter

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Momentum.

The average person is really hard to move to a new platform. I saw this when Skype was the big thing for internet communication the Microsoft slowly made it worse and worse before it was barely a shadow of its former self.

Alternatives existed, many that were much better, but they were slightly harder to use or came along way after people were already set on Skype.

It wasn't until discord that the internet shifted, but even discord has its problems.

Good write up, except Skype is a bad example, because it’s better than any alternative, at least when it comes to screen sharing, audio quality, and file sharing. (Although I’d love to be wrong about this.)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

United States law enforcement agencies have the ability to eavesdrop on Skype conversations and to have access to Skype users' geographic locations. In many cases, a simple request for information is sufficient, with no court approval needed. This ability was deliberately added by Microsoft for law enforcement agencies around the world after they purchased Skype in 2011.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_security

Although I think Microsoft implemented end-to-end encryption for skype for single conversations at a time in 2018. Still, for seven years, microsoft was giving law enforcement every conversation they wanted.

Politics, sports, musicians, celebrities, news ...

Those are slow to move off if they are at all.

It's a shame.

few other platforms have ad much diversity in their hatred and negativity, community notes are funny, watching things slowly get worse is also interesting.

Or even talking about shit like this? Musk is living rent free in a lot of people's heads. The way to make him irrelevant is to treat him as such. Making a fuss about everything he says, gives him undue importance.

[–] [email protected] 86 points 1 week ago (2 children)

To be fair, he's commanding a ton of influence among policy makers, so it's pretty critical to not completely ignore the bullshit he's up to.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also because people like Musk are further empowered when no one is looking. I'm as tired of hearing about him as anyone but will keep reading until he's in prison, dead, or at least not the de facto president of the united states.

It’s one of those things where, while I’m sick of hearing about his bullshit, I need to know if he does something that directly affects me. E.g. if he started doing a similar thing in my country as the stuff he’s trying with Britain at the moment then I’d write to a couple of representatives to let them know they’ll lose mine and many other votes if they side with the dopey billionaire muppet.

I bet Grok doesn't even have a clue about Twitter policies and is just making shit up

[–] [email protected] 47 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly, I don't know why people haven't understood that yet, Grok is just another LLM, it doesn't know shit, it doesn't understand shit, it just regurgitates words from the data it's been trained on and it certainly isn't an insider at Shitter.

Stop asking Grok what the fuck Elon is doing

IT

DOESN'T

KNOW

It should probably make stuff up that doesn't make it's boss look bad.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Grok is a laughing stock in LLM world.

  • It’s worse than Gemini, Claude, so… why use it over API?

  • It’s not open source or even open weights. Elon is straight up lying when he claims it is.

  • It’s more expensive and generally more censored than great open weights models. Its even straight up worse than the remarkable Deepseek v3.

  • It has no niche. It’s not long context, it’s slopped from training on other models, it’s not fast, it has seemingly no architectural advantages (not that they publish anything about it,) it’s not particularly good at prose or code completion or answering grounded in facts (hence the subject of the OP) or anything.

  • Elon has one of the most inefficiently used H100 hoards on the planet, while other labs are making good models without being billionaires or scorching the Earth.

  • Elon is an asshole, and I don’t want anything to do with him.

  • Even for “business use,” simply associating with X makes you radioactive.

The only ostensible reason I can think of to use Grok is ignorance, or to lick the boots of Musk/Trump. It’s not good, it’s not ‘based,’ it’s just a shitty, expensive product hyped to the moon and “better some day.” Surprise, surprise…

Anyway, the point is Elon doesn’t care if Grok makes him look bad. Reality is irrelevant, he can hype the snot out of it and have hordes come running to bow in deference.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

It's funny because the tweet in question denouncing that would be negative on 4 counts :D

[–] [email protected] 151 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This is not even a surprise. It's exactly what I expected in fact. Just don't use X/Twitter/whatever we call it this week. Just don't use it, delete your account. It's literally a platform for Musk and the people that think like him now. Even taking part is validating him right now.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Use it and trash it by calling musk cisgender.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago

It's stormfront v2.
