Haha, he killed the Peppa Pig! Get it?? Because WE kill pigs too and eat them. So funny, right!? A dead pig like the millions of others, haha! Now I want a sandwich, haha!
Not sure where everyone gets vegan from this. I'm sensing more neurological dysfunction.
Anyone curious what this king of comedy considers funny?
You4e telling me you couldn't go for a grilled cheese with pickles and nuts on a fancy rustic bread? A nice smoky tomato soup for dipping?
Yes I could. But I'd swap the cheese and milk-stuff for a plant based alternative, because of the suffering, the destruction and the annihilation that comes with animal agriculture. I don't want to pay for this, be a part of it just because I was raised accustomed to the taste. There are great alternatives. But first, you gotta educate yourself, watch the videos. I used to be just as irritated as you.
There isn't good vegan cheese and you know it. It's like the one thing; fermentation is complicated. Cheeses are hard to fake when you've got animal proteins to work with.
The closest id get is, like, miso or something with a stickyfying agent, guar gum or something to cohere the bread. Dish would still need adjustment.
The ecological toll is real, but it's hard to take concern for animals seriously in this context when you've seen what we do to the human workers who make our everything. Better to shorten the supply chain and have as few beings/exploitation hours involved as possible if that's your worry.
I used to love cheese and I agree. There is no perfect replacement, yet. Making udder cheese is complicated (and weird!) and thousands of years old, plant based cheese just a decade. If you're not ready to make compromises, then start somewhere else. You don't have to go all in, change step by step. Choose a meal that you like to cook and veganise it. Or learn a new one, there are billions of modern and traditional recipes from around the world.
Buy oat milk and stick with it for a couple of weeks. It's just a taste, you will learn to like it eventually.
You're wrong about buying local, though. Transport is only about 2% of the emissions at the most.
"Human workers are treated badly" ticks the Vegan Bullshit Bingo #23:
There are more important subjects
Absolutely! Fortunately, being vegan doesn't mean you can't care about anything else. We have to eat either way. Why not something ethically and ecologically justifiable, then? We hardly have such a big lever as through our choice of food - 3x a day. And a look at the environmental, humanitarian and global health consequences of animal-based foods quickly shows how important and urgent this issue is, and how much people and the environment benefit from it.
Used to be vegan, back when i cared about the future of humanity and the earth a little more; the math is kind of undeniable, but there's no use pinching pennies if you won't step back from the craps table-maybe when we collectively do, i will again. I just did without fake shit. There's plenty of cool plants and i know my chemistry 101. Wasn't ever missing all that much, except very high end pastry, which is beyond my skill anyway.
By short supply chain i dont mean distance, i meant like steps. Labor (and other exploitation) hours. Like, for the chips in the device im typing this on, in addition to the chips I'm currently binge eating.
vegan bingo
No i think when you've got slaves dying in the field or suicide nets on the factories, when the child soldiers around the mine the raw minerals come from are kept drugged 24/7, and nobody in the town near the smelter makes it to fifty, it's a valid point. We dont treat anyone like fellow persons under capitalism, and trying to act like being vegan is automagically better is simply absurd.
Their lives are not automatically worth more for being human; we agree thats anthropocentric and fucking damn near omnicidal. They aren't worth less either; thats racist classist and myopic.
And id laugh at the version of this cartoon with a human child too, it just wouldn't be as legible. Might be funnier.
You sound like you need a hug. What can I say? Life has always been a scam for many, but we didn't hear most of their stories. Now we do and it sometimes affects our mental health. I try to focus on stuff I can make a difference. I wish you all the best, take care.
I think your connection glitched, you've double posted.
Nuh uh. That was on purpose, you just don't understand art.
Woh if I become vegan will I gain your mighty intellect and command of the English language as well, you've convinced me to stop eating animals
Their variation of English is due to them being European and I am American.
Buddy, are you virtue signaling on a meme about a fictional characters?
Had to look up Virtue signalling. Yes sir, I do. The character is fictional, but the killer hUmOuR is real. Bacon btw. Enjoy your upvotes.
This is the only vegan meme I currently have saved. Consider this my olive branch, and maybe learn to suspend your disbelief.
He is most likely german judging by instance and name, and we have no humor we are aware of. Apologies
They're grilling vegetables and stuff but I'm sure the creators knew what they were doing.
The profile view in the third panel is wrong, there are supposed to be 2 eyes on each side.
A mother's grief as a dark punchline, hilarious. This artist should share notes with Stonetoss, equal damage to the areas of their brains that experience empathy.
experience empathy
Is there some term for the weaponization of empathy in a shitty argument? That word gets overused. Whenever I see it come up, it's almost always a shitty argument. Definitely not the trump card they treat it as.
Damn i bet you're fun to be around
Many of the funniest comedians are deeply in touch with their empathy - George Carlin, Robin Williams, Bo Burham, Bill Burr has had a famous turn from grievance comic to empathetic philosopher comic and it's improved his popularity and humour. Meanwhile many of the crappiest ones - Joe Rogan, Andrew Dice Clay, Ellen Degeneres - lack empathy in their lives and performances. Having empathy doesn't mean you can't be fun or funny, often the opposite.
If you can't see Bill Burr wheezing with laughter showing his daughter this meme I don't know what to tell you
Peppa pig isn't real. This isn't a situation that could ever happen
Can you suspend your disbelief so hard that a doctor turns your child into processed meat because of a misunderstanding?
If I try, I don't know how to empathize with the situation except to be angry at the doctor, or the fact that a hospital offers that service at all. It's an absurd premise
This isn't a joke about a mother's pain. It's a comic about wordplay, and the disturbing implications of "our world but everyone is pigs"
Its not real so empathy is irrelevant?
Its not a joke about wordplay because if you take away the dark humour context - the loss, the reaction of the mother - it's got nothing other than 'lol a word has two meanings'.
If the mum was cut out of the last panel - then yep you could pass it off as absurdist humour, but as it is I don't think thats fair, an easy out - the humour relies on her reaction. I appreciate you engaging as I thought it was an interesting conversation, but most have really taken it to heart it and attacked me for finding a comic distasteful. Counter opinions are very unwelcome here like most comms on Lemmy. My last reply about it but I did want to thank you if but to disagree politely. 👌
It's not real, so empathy is not required. Cartoons often have horrifying implications if you look too closely, because they're not trying to represent reality
If you're putting yourself in the place of the mother pig, you're zoomed in to far. The absurdism is in the situation
Think of it this way, if the reason for the child dying was making some parallel to something real, like splitting the family due to deportation... That's something grounded in reality, it would be horrible
But there is no situation where doctors turn children into meat as a service. The premise is absurd. There's no danger a real person would ever go through this, this is pure fancy
The mother's reaction isn't to laugh at her pain, it's to let us sit with the moment and let the joke land
