This pisses me off fuck fuck fuck, you know how when you were younger you would try doing cool tricks with a long stick? Imagine that but with a spear, spin thrust throw block defend ughhh I'm gonna kill you anon

The spear is the only other weapon that will damage the Mana Beast in Secret of Mana other than using the spells to awaken the Mana Sword.

I've been trying a throwing spears only challenge in New Vegas... it isn't going well. Spears suuuuuuuck in NV.

You can swing them if you want.

Spears are cool and I will show you why they are cool if you fight me

They are the sword of the peasant. Cheaper, easier to use and better in large formations.

Dude doesn't even recognize the fact that you can still attack with a spear while your shield is raised in blocking position. 🤦‍♂️

I love Spectral Lance in Elden Ring. Turn any spear into a throwable weapon.

[–] stoi@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago

The stance damage is wild too

I actually go for spears or other polearms whenever possible, they are way cooler than swords to me.

[–] thax@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 4 weeks ago

Me too. Sadly, spears rarely get much love in RPGs. I've always wanted a) spears to qualify as finesse weapons and b) to make a dexterity build that dances about with a spear and takes advantage of distance. Just recently I started replaying neverwinter nights, with PRC (like every DND race/class combo) to experiment with builds.

Glaives it is then.

Lest we forget halberds.

[–] dufkm@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

Crossing your halberd with your bro gives the best "you shall not pass" energy.

Most spears didnt have rounded spikes so you could still slash with them. Using the pole to whack people with was also common. They're more like bladed staffs than anything else.

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 41 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, but you're talking about real spears, this is about videogame spears.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I want a game where the only weapon is a spear.

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 weeks ago

It's not only spears, but the spears is very realistic in Just Dance. Only has the Britney kind, though.

[–] Droechai@lemm.ee 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Playing Morrowind with the "use optimal attack" switched off did offer variety even if thrust was by and far best

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 weeks ago

Arena and Daggerfall made you drag your mouse for each attack.

Which would be really cool and tactical if the enemy hitboxes had one iota of complexity.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 weeks ago

Did they came from Nier by any chance? That, previous and following games have a hard veiny imbalance for long pointy objects.

[–] HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone 38 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

thrust, sure fine. It's okay.

Ineffective bonk or thwack? embarassing. humiliating. Just plain silly.

Tossing the whole damn spear? Amazing. Doubly so when you land a headshot.

BUT WHEN YOU COUCH THAT LANCE

BUT WHEN YOU COUCH THAT LANCE

Mount and Blade intensifies.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

This guy would bang my dead mom instead of using a spear? What an L.

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Reminds me of lance in monster hunter world, it's literally just thrust over and over again. I will never understand people that like it (yes, the charge is kinda cool)

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 1 points 4 weeks ago

I find the movement awkward, i tried it in mh4u and mhw and both time even with the movement tweak by the dev, it just didn't feel right to me that i dodge backward where i facing.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 7 points 4 weeks ago

I've finished it a few days ago. You're in for a ride and a half

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 weeks ago

Thrust, throw, use as a defensive wall, there we go 3 uses
