Riddle me this, why are most governments pro-Israel, while it appears the general population is against the genocide?

Unfortunately, this is not the appropriate place for a discussion.

BestOfLemmy aims to highlight good arguments / discussions / topics from across Lemmy. I don't have the abilities to really do a fair and just debate here.

Governments see Israel as an ally against the middle east, so they're willing to look past the genocide. There's also nothing for them to gain by helping Palestine.

Historically the world was more oil dependent and the middle east had lots. That led to conflicts both internally and from the west. Israel was seen as an ally within that region. Allies can be helpful for logistics and safety of good passage.

However, as the world transitions to cleaner energy, the middle east becomes less important. America.is now a net exporter rather than importer.for instance. So Israel is using all its political capital to carry out the genocide it's wanted for years. Governments are gradually turning on them die the grotesque evil they are carrying out and the repercussions from voter sentiment.

Add to the mix historical racism and antisemitism, the holocaust, Netanyahu's legal troubles etc and it starts becoming more complex.
