Movie Review time.

OSS 117. SBS. French Polar spoof. Dujardin did a really good take off of Connery. The whole movie was a superb cringe fest. "Those Villainesses just need a hobby!!'

Three wee lads of the Shire.

100 Beavers. Black and White silent movie. Comedy. Like Charlie Chaplin met Bugs Bunny in the Yukon.

3 hobbits

Piccadilly Jim. A PG Wodehouse story with Sam Rockwell as the wastrel. It was fun. The costumes and set design were terrific.

3 hobbits.

Poltergeist. the remake. Not fun. I lasted 10 minutes. I just thought the structure of the story wasn't good. It didn't start off with everyone happy and hopeful . It started off tense. No sense of peace to disturb, no loss, no learning curve. maybe could have been edited better. I dunno, I'm just a viewer.

2 hobbits.

I watched the sequel to OSS set in Cairo and it was a fun movie. Kind of like a French Austin Powers but a bit edgier on everything but the sex side

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I haven't seen that one yet. They are def fun movies. :)

Hmm, I'm noticing that feeling of rising anxiety when the sun sets. Trying not to feed it. That old fear that I haven't done enough and the day is ending and something's going to go wrong. No, no, I'm not going to succumb. I'm too old for this, dammit!

I've done some Useful Things today: made rice and dal, paid my licence renewal fee, washed and dried the blanket and sheets, and now I'm going to tidy up my tatty anxiety-brows and pack for a day of training tomorrow. That's it, I don't need to do anything else. The day's been worth it, I can sleep fine. ...and if not I have a restavit by my bedside table.

wanted to know what temp it was in the room so I went outside to get my thermometer. The glass tube slid out the holder so I put it back in. But how far does it actually go in the holder and against the scale.

๐Ÿซฅ

Thermometer is now completely useless to measure anything except change in temp.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Put it in ice water and adjust the tube placement so the thermometer shows zero.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

ice water isn't zero, it can be between -2 to 2

but my fridge is a set temp ๐Ÿ‘

No steam fresh bags at the supermarket, I've had to regress to bulk flash frozen prechopped veggies. Feels like the stone age.

Heaven knows what I'd have to do if neither were available. Hardly bares thinking about.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Years ago I bought one of these. If you stick to plain water to steam youโ€™ll still have to wash it but the task wonโ€™t be too bad. More like a swish and rinse instead of needing to scrub.

https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/382586/sistema-large-microwave-steamer?srsltid=AfmBOopOMR_8iJ_A0ZrlhJbcYGM6cHb5m3YAzlgzQpiFe0QTTSqm3HvD

Chopping veg is tough for a lot of people. If you canโ€™t get the steam bags or frozen veg, you can also buy bags of prechopped fresh veg.

There are also canned vegetables

(If any of this helps)

Buy silicone reusable steam bags and defy false gods

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Now this is my kind of blasphemy

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

... TIL, I didn't know these were a thing. Will take note for when I Cannot Cope but still need to eat my veggies

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Back when I was still able to eat them, the Chunky soups were a lifesaver on those really bad days. A fairly balanced meal in a can with meat and vegies for a few dollars.

If you like any of the flavours itโ€™s worth buying up when theyโ€™re half price and keeping them on hand.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh those things were an absolute lifesaver as a hyper frugal undergrad student. I don't eat meat now and I don't think I could handle those tins but I might stock up on some convenience items for the week. Whatever new place I go to had better have enough pantry space....

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, I ate the equivalent from Sanitarium in my vego stint.

Thatโ€™s a good idea. It may not be the ideal food but still really helps to look out for your future self and make sure they eat

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Eating convenient crap definitely better than not eating out of neglect, I've learned that enough times now

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I hate when you get used to something and then bang, it's taken away. This is why I hoard. Not my fault. They made me do it.

The secret to the softness of the tum.
