The Kokang armed group Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) has been enforcing a mandatory military service requirement for one member of each household in Lashio Township outside urban wards, residents of the city said.

MNDAA are militia for the ethnic Han Chinese descendents of the Ming dynasty who ran from invading Manchurians. However most of the folks living around Lashio are of Shan descent. Are these folks better off living under the rule of the MNDAA militia or the Junta?
