Undead nightmarrrrre, fuck yes. I generally don't like rockstar games these days, but undead nightmare was so fucking good. I might actually have to buy it

I'm confused here: Hasn't Red Dead Redemption been on Steam for years?

Guess a mod didn't like my harmless joke at your "Read" typo (Read Deed Rederpshun)

Tough crowd I guess

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ah, so Read Dead Revolver?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

It's... a little complicated. Sorry, saying 1 wasn't exactly clear -- Red Dead Revolver is a precursor to Red Dead Redemption, so they are different games.

Revolver was released in 2004 and is a smaller game, featuring a different character, referenced in newer games as an Easter egg. It actually was a partnership between Capcom and Rockstar, with Rockstar finishing the game after they bought the rights.

Red Dead Redemption was in 2010 and is larger, it also had the DLC Undead Nightmares released.

And then Red Dead Redemption 2 is obviously the followup to Redemption 1.

I think the best way to look at it is from the in game narrative, the gameplay of Revolver is a retelling of the events which have been greatly exaggerated after becoming a legendary story. Which is why the references to Revolver in the later games are like tall tales.

Anyway, long story short, no not Revolver. What just came out is a rerelease of Red Dead Redemption 1 and Undead Revolver, the 2010 game.

Can't wait to pirate it

I'm not heavy into gaming but I'm shocked that RDR wasn't already on PC.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

Development of this game was highly troubled, to the point that the relatives of the developers working on it held a rally in protest in front of Rockstar San Diego's office to decry the abysmal working conditions taking a toll on their families. I've heard one developer describing RDR's code base as "spaghetti code" and a miracle that it works at all, which is likely what prevented it from being ported to other platforms for so long.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Fuck yeah. Already own both on my X360 but I'd gladly buy it again for all the modding bonanza, Undead Nightmare is a fucking blast.

The troubles I went through to play this game with keyboard and mouse in the past. My first attempt involved an Xbox One X hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, streaming the game to the PC over local network, only to then use a specialized piece of incredibly janky software for just this game that would translate keyboard and mouse input into Xbox controller commands. Start everything up, switch the screen over to the Xbox (so that I would have full image quality) and I had a somewhat tolerable experience. I kept auto-aim enabled though.

It was about equivalent to, although more stable and performant, than running emulators and remapping the controls of those, which also required special tools.

Too bad they added shitty anticheat that broke GTA Online. I can't trust Rockstar anymore and I won't be buying these. RDR on PC was something I really wanted, but not after Rockstar betrayed us by basically revoking our access to GTA Online after almost a decade.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We got official Red Dead Redemption 1 on PC before GTA 6.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Considering consoles still haven't gotten GTA 6 that's not saying much...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Correct. This is just a meme, where people say that with any game we wanted to have for a long time. So it wasn't a serious statement.

Not buying with that disgusting launcher that requires you to connect to online to play the game...

Fuck off. I am just trying to kill few hours on the plane

Corpos get fucked

While this launcher is terrible and Take2 is a prime example of an awful gaming corpo, there is an offline mode:

If i need a page long instruction to use the product, I won't buy it again. Why I as paying customer have to waste my life on this shite?

Prepare Rockstar Games Launcher for offline mode[2]

Open Rockstar Games Launcher while being connected to the internet.
When logging in, tick the Remember my password checkbox.
Run downloaded games at least once to ensure they're properly configured for offline mode.
Launch the small overlay by pressing either the Home ⇱ key or the corresponding button combination on a controller.
Click on the gear-looking icon (⚙).
    Click on "Settings"
    Select the "Profile" tab.
    Switch "Auto Sign-in" to Enabled.
Close the menu and the game.
Fully close the Rockstar Games Launcher
Disconnect your computer from Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
Relaunch the Rockstar Games Launcher and verify that it can sign into offline mode, and that downloaded games are accessible as well.
Once the game session is over, player might have to immediately log-in again, even while offline. It is recommended to do so in order to avoid authentication issues while being offline.

I don't disagree. I used to remove the DRM of games I bought on disc way back when, just so that I didn't have to insert those discs into my PC any time I wanted to play.

i spend last 10ish years paying like a good little bitch for this clown ass regime but recently i woke up. and now i don't pay for anything unless they deliver it i how i like it (for discretionary spending)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm assuming you're a fan of gog then?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i am fan but not a proper user... i am a steam slave for now due library and proton.

but steam is gonna turn to shit the day gabe owner dies so gonna need to make that move eventually.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Try using GoG through the Heroic Games Launcher and Proton-GE. It works really really good.

So excited about this. I've wished for years to be able to be able to play this game at 60 fps and hire. Months back I revisited this game on my PS3 to check out the multiplayer and the frames were rough.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I replayed it last year on an Xbox 360 emulator, which gave me 1440p and 60 fps. It worked quite well!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Switch emulation works even better.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I played through it on my Xbox One X some years ago and had fun with it. It didn't run at 60 fps, but 2160p30 was a very cinematic experience regardless.

It's very impressive how well the assets hold up at higher resolutions. You can't say this about many games from that generation. Landscape rendering and design in particular was a whole generation ahead of the competition.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nice! I can't wait to start and never finish RDR 1.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can't wait to buy the game and never start it at all.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You should though. This is still one of the best open world games of all time. It's about as close to flawless as a game this old can be and it holds up incredibly well.

Edit: It's also far, far less cluttered than modern open world games, which means that the content there is has far more meaning and impact due to fewer shiny trinkets and pointless map markers distracting the player every ten meters.
