Final (?) Debate thread before the election in 35 days.

Debate begins at 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific and runs 90 minutes.

Vice Presidential debates are always tricky since nobody has voted for Vice President in living memory.

Expect Vance to attack Walz on his military service.

Expect Walz to attack Vance on the whole "immigrants eating cats and dogs" thing.

Expect Vance to attack Walz on being an assistant coach, at best.

Expect Walz to roll out "Weird!" at least once.

CBS has announced the burden of fact checking will be on the candidates themselves.

Vance: “Our policies aren’t our policies. We actually support your favored policies. You’re not allowed to fact check me. I’ll go back to our real policies tomorrow.”

JD got upset when Tim said Minnesota has the lowest teen pregnancy rate, it's kind of his thing

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Kind of interesting that the "get under his skin" thing is kind being deployed against Walz a bit here. He's not Trump, so he's not flying off the handle, but he's losing his cool occasionally. I actually think that could work in his favor if he can channel it effectively. I think an angry Walz, within reason, could be really effective to counter robo-vance.

There is this face that Vance makes while Walz is talking where he looks at the camera and sort of rolls his eyes.

Idk why but it's kind of funny to me

“Why won’t you rebut my lies?”

“They aren’t true”

“Ok but like why won’t you explain how?”

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Vance digging deep into the reddit school of debate. ‘Explain to me how my lie is untrue please. I’ll derail all other talk until then.’

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago

JD “Spez” Vance

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

Many women who want families or already have families are devastated by your draconian ‘care’.

How are you wrong? In every single way, Vance. Just like on nearly everything, you have no empathy and can only see black and white when the world is many shades of grey.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

walz is getting so annoyed at vance bald face laws. vance trying to distort walzs own law. man walz is doing a good job of restraining himself though.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

That's because he's a genuinely nice person.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 weeks ago

"Should we force catholic hospitals to do abortions?"

No. Because there shouldn't be catholic hospitals.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Do you want to support Catholic hospitals to perform abortions against their will?" FUCKING YES.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There shouldn't be catholic hospitals

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Agreed, but that's a separate issue. There are Catholic hospitals and while those hospitals exist, they have to be forced to perform abortions if the woman's life is at risk.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Agreed. What else can they opt out of based on religion at that point? They could claim they don't help Muslims due to religious beliefs. They could claim they won't help women who don't listen to their husbands.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Fuck off. It’s not about wanting families. Your policies turn women into walking coffins!

e: not even one woman anywhere, ever, should have to endure that, if it’s at all preventable. For anyone who doesn’t know, this can easily fall short of all legal exceptions for weeks, because the mother’s life isn’t actually in danger at first – though her sanity is, and it’s inexcusably barbaric.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Vance lies like he breathes, but he isn’t mentally addled like Trump. He’s a threat. A long term threat.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Yep. Fortunately, Walz is doing a good job of neutralizing his crap.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago

Yup. He's very slick and relaxed up there. Completely full of horrible ideas and deception, but he's unfortunately doing better on the optics and sound bitey-ness.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 weeks ago

Vance: "Women don't trust us because we are against abortion. We'll make them trust us by making fertility treatments more accessible."

What?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Walz seems really nice. And the VP doesn't usually matter that much. But it sure would be nice if that was Buttigieg or Shapiro up there. Buttigieg loves sparring with Republicans. He is a great attack dog, but thats not really what Walz's role seems to be, and that's OK, but considering the election is a coin flip, I just want every fraction of a percent of support Harris can get.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

In this case the VP matters, because for all the ‘Biden is too old’ talk, trump is only a couple years younger, and he could easily drop dead during a next term, which would leave us with president Vance.

eta: and the reason Buttigieg or Shapiro weren’t chosen was because, according to reports, an extreme life colonoscopy was performed on anyone under consideration, because trump’s camp would also do that and capitalise on anything they found. Walz passed all those tests because he’s squeaky clean. In this election, that’s pretty important. So far, that strategy has worked, and every straw trump’s team has grasped at has blown up in their face. We’ll soon see if this debate changes that (I doubt it).

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Well, first of all.
Well... First of all.
First of all.
Well. First of all.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

They’re both soft-balling this. Lean harder, Walz. He’s giving you ammunition!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oof, that Walz fumble. That probably became a GOP talking point on Twitter before Walz had a chance to regret what he just said. That is going to be the "We beat medicare!" and "They're eating the dogs!" moment of this debate.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Eh, I don't think so. Yes, it was a fumble, but not a devastating one. And Vance is just constantly lying, then getting called on it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago
[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe people don’t agree with you because you’re a misogynistic dipshit.

So your ex-baby mama is watching. I feel bad for her for ever having crossed your path.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

you want to help people to afford babies vance. how about funding education nationally with three meals provided each day. oh and maybe healthcare. that would help.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago

Vance: Smoke and mirrors, we want to do better.... but we won't.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Vance is now pro-abortion exceptions? Are you kidding me?

Edit: typo

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

guys I thought Walz would be doing better

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

I was hoping for a bit more also. JD is definitely coming off more organized. He's still full of it and dodging a number of things, but he's much more comfortable than Walz.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Excellent answer. Humanizing the issue, giving practical information, and raising project 2025.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Here we go. Yes, women’s rights.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Here we go, reproductive rights.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Oh yeah, tariffs. Please, increase inflation for all of us who can’t even afford shit now.

And your orange god sources his shitty Wish watches from China, what are you talking about?!?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

so obsessed with impeaching donald trump. yeah well that happens when you use the us presidency for blackmail. Its not obsession when a person is actually being corrupt.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"I've been consistent" says JD.

Consistently lying.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

yeah I love walz is doing so well but vance said practically the same thing with maybe the order changed a bit throughout this "debate".
