Damn what a shame. Even though he was never on screen in Star Wars, he is still the most iconic actor just because of his voice.

I JUST showed the Sandlot to my kid for the first time.... RIP in peace

I'm confused. Was JEJ in that movie? Or did your kid die of excitement overload after watching The Sandlot?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

He is in The Sandlot

Not a widely beloved performance, but on this episode of Prairie Home Companion, he plays Jim from Huckleberry Finn, catching up with ol' Huck. One of my all-time favorite bits.

Relevant part starts at 9:45

Thank you! That was really cute!

Now I’m bummed. The man was a badass.

Don't be sad that it's over. Be happy that it happened. Everything in life is temporary. Eventually it all ends. And plenty of cool stuff never gets to happen. Like teleportation. I'd LOVE for my work commute to take 2 seconds. Or big mouth singing bass that start vomiting money. Those things don't exist, and never existed.

Instead I have to take the bus like a pleb! And earn my living by doing work, instead of listening to a sickly plastic fish.

But James Earl Jones existing DID get to happen! And you shared a planet with him. And he didn't die some horrible death.....he died at 93. He didn't get shot dead at 17. He got to do lots of cool stuff. And you got to witness it.

Don't be sad it's over. Be happy that it happened.

May the Force be with him.

Always.

He had a good run. Most don't see past 80. Rest that bombastic, silky-smooth, mahogany voice, you icon of cinema and black history

Astounding voice. And did you ever hear the man laugh?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

That laugh is so warm I bet he never needed central heating

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

Noooooo!!!!!!!!!

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago

That's such a bummer. I was just talking to my son about him the other week, joking "wasn't it weird that they got Darth Vader to voice Mufasa in Lion King?" Dude had an amazing voice.

Oh no! Coming to America's dad 😭

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 week ago

Do not want this. ;(

They've been putting the films into cinemas near me recently, saw Episode IV for the first time on the big screen and man it was such a cool experience.

His voice as Vader is such an iconic role and part of this franchise and he will be dearly missed. Rest in peace

Episode IV was the only film I did not see first run in the theater (I was a month old when it was released), but I saw it a dozen times when it was rereleased in the late 90s. Got a bunch of friends together so we could recite it in unison during one of the playings.

Pssshhhh! That's no excuse! Should have started crying until mommy brought you to see Star Wars!

Episode IV is the one where Chewbacca makes out with Darth Vader, right? And then they find out they're brother and sister, but it's too late. They're already in love.
