Unlike Iran, Israel is already a nuclear state, with a secretive programme that dates back to the 1950s

From The Middle East Eye:

It [the Samson Option] is in stark contrast, say analysts, to the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), where if one nuclear power pre-emptively attacked another, then the targeted nation would still have time to retaliate, ensuring neither would survive.

I must be missing something important. I don’t understand why the Samson Option is “in stark contrast” to MAD. I mean, everyone still dies, so they seem pretty similar to me.

MAD is a nuclear deterrent scheme to discourage anyone from launching nukes. The Samson Option involves nuking much of the world as Israel’s dying breath, even if it’s attacked using conventional weapons.

It’s psychopathic to the extreme.

The Wikipedia article is kind of misleading. The Samson options isn't just MAD in that they plan to launch at their enemies. They plan to nuke other countries too. Like European countries that have nothing to do with the conflict. It's a blackmail scheme. (Source: Hersh, Seymour (1991), The Samson Option: Israel's Nuclear Arsenal and American Foreign Policy)

It's anti Semitic to talk about Israelis undisclosed nuclear weapons program.

My upvote is contingent on the fact that I read this as sarcasm

There's so much propaganda about imaginary nukes in Iran, but the imperial narrative never talks about this genocidal cult threatening the entire planet with a nuclear holocaust.

It's just an overused excuse to do all kinds of shit. I watched yesterday a video showing Nedanyahu claiming Iran is about to create nuclear wapons in various points of time, all the way back to 1995. What a clown.

I'm as opposed to genocide and fascism as anyone else here, but I don't see how that's different from any other nuclear power's policy of using nuclear weapons when its existence is threatened.

EDIT: nevermind, the article starts off by saying the nuclear weapon would be used against the invader, but then multiple authors refer to their launch to indiscriminate targets around the world, a nuclear winter, etc.

Have you read the bible verses on Sampson? Not the movie/stories, the actual bible verses.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've neither watched the movies, nor read the original. I didn't know about this character before today.

It's not a great bible story to base your nuclear strategy on.

Sampson was a brutal man, a womanizer, a drunk, etc. He would fly into a rage and kill people, irrespective of who they were or if they were begging for their life.

He was led into temptation easily, by his dick, with Delilah, and lost everything because of it. The Jewish people almost lost everything because of his hubris.

It's a cautionary tale of arrogance that almost leads to a destruction of an entire nation (Israel), and just before all looks lost, he commits suicide and takes a ton of Philistines out with him by tearing down the coliseum they're standing in.
