I think it would be funnier if he was standing on the ground with his fists up.
For context, this is the patented Godzilla Kick. It could be misconstrued as Riker having already punched Godzilla.

That doesn't look very realistic. I bet they just punched Godzilla for the take and then reversed the footage.
If Godzilla is moving in that direction in the OP picture, then Riker's trajectory means he's currently preparing for entry.
This is why Starfleet officers use the double hand punch.

It works quite well against the cardies.
Only the Gorn are truly immune, and this makes me think Godzilla is just the final form of the gorn.
