Don't forget about the Jim Crow laws for America, or Churchill's genocide in India partly based on his support of Aryan race theory. Which is pretty fucked up, honestly.

Certainly. The examples I gave in the body were far from exhaustive.
Where is Churchill that genocidal piece of shit?
Average dot ml poster discussing the 2024 election..
The Sami people were deported from Norway, sent to "education camps" in Sweden where they were stripped down naked and photographed for "studies". They were taught to be "Norwegian" and to rid themselves of any Sami practices. Kids were moved moved to cities and other parts of the country so that they would be as far away from family as possible. It was borderline slavery and I assume there were deaths linked to this kind of treatment of indigenous people.
Luckily that has changed for the better in Norway. We have radio stations, TV stations and signage in Sami. There's a lot of money being put into educating kids and adults for what the country did, and there's a lot of discussion on how to make Norwegian websites more friendly to the Sami (translations etc).

This is the way to move forward. Only by understanding and spreading awareness of the cruelties of the past can we avoid repeating them.
I truly wish Romania would do the same with Roma people here. The culture is still very racist towards them without any actual understanding of what Romanians did to cause this to happen in the first place.
Short version: slavery followed by mass murder during WW2 (not on the scale of the Jews, but still pretty bad) followed by forced assimilation of the style described above against the Sami.
Tbh that's the only way forward. Trying to hide the past only makes the current issues worse, and I assume facilitates a more divided country.
My apologies for the out-of-proportion Soviet wojak, Google sucks ass anymore + I'm lazy.
Yet this time US is doing the right, helping defend a country where both US and Russia promised to respect its borders.
Moscovy Russia was never on the right side of history. In world war too or actually worked with Nazis and they invaded Poland in 1939 from both sides and continued working together until Hitler backstabbed Stalin by starting operation Barbarossa which was devastating to USSR.
That's when Stalin switched sides. After getting equipment from US and sending countless Ukrainians to the front against Nazis they eventually stopped them.
This is why Russia doesn't recognize World War 2. They call it Great Patriotic War and according to them it started in 22 June 1941 (when Hitler attacked and they switched sides).
I understand internal propaganda to make Russians think they are the good guys, but it is sad that many westerners are not aware of it.
…until Hitler backstabbed Stalin by starting operation Barbarossa…
Fun fact: hitler’s generals wanted to invade the Middle East instead. They needed the oil to keep up wartime production.
Unlike the Soviet’s, they were armed with ww1 era castoffs, and the terrain was favorable.
The only reason that they invaded Russia instead is that hitler absolutely despised Stalin.
It’s also- probably- the reason the war ended when it did. While it was devastating for the soviets, there wasn’t much real gain by the Germans.
No worries.
