“For every brunch lib we lose in Williamsburg, we’ll pick up two non-voters struggling with rent in Queens!”

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Not to take away from the bit (more to get it dialed in so we can use it for the next 5 months) but wasn't Williamsburg a blowout for Zohran?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah Williamsburg was a total blowout. The bastion of brunch libs is the Upper East Side, that went heavily to Cuomo.

Thanks I'll start practicing the line accordingly

His victory would make him the second Socialist mayor ever in the state of New York.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Both DSA members and both in the past 40 years

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I stand corrected. He would be the fifth Socialist Mayor in the state of New York. The first was from the now defunct Socialist Party USA in 1911.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Who are the others, besides La Guardia?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

George Lunn from Schnectady, John Gibbons from Lackawanna, Ben Nichols from Ithaca and David Dinkins from NYC.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, comrade.

Wonder how spread out their terms were, and the period context.

That Dinkins really ran as a socialist - and won - is blowing my mind. That’s the late 80’s hellscape.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

George Lunn: 1911-1913 would later turn Dem, winning mayorship for two more terms and eventually Congressional rep and Lieutenant governor.

John Gibbons: 1920-1922 Was elected during the height of a steel strike in the rust belt where he was from

Ben Nichols: 1989-1995 Pretty impressive he did well during the fall of the USSR. Was even fighting for gay rights at a time when it wasn’t okay.

You seem to already know about Dinkins but he’s an oddball of the bunch. He never seemed to back away from being a member of the DSA and did organize some Socialist meetings before becoming mayor. It never came up during his run though and the race was featured more on racial lines. This came during the NYC crime crisis and with Rodney King still in peoples memory. He would eventually lose to Giuliani after one term.

Great stuff, thanks!

Recently read that Dinkins went to visit Fidel Castro. Love that!

As someone who has been in several of the struggle sessions around him, I don't think he's the second coming of Lenin, but from what I've heard about his plans for NY, I generally think his position will be useful as long as attempts to implement them occur. He'll either get them through, which I think would increase leftward support, or he'll get ratfucked in the most blatant manner possible. Both are useful for agitprop. The only thing that would be a net negative, in my opinion, would be bending the knee.

From some of the vids I have seen come from him, it does seem like he's already planned around getting ratfucked to some degree when attempting to implement change and use it for agitation, but frankly, I've been busy, so I haven't consumed enough to take a hardened stance.

I feel like he's the best possible version of a DSA social democrat. He's also really good at cable news interviews in a way that you almost never see. His ideology and demeanor actually reminds me a lot of Michael Brooks who had also planned on running for office in New York, and Brooks was fundamental in my radicalization

I think Mamdani is the 2nd coming of Lenin buddy-christ

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'd love to be wrong about that lmao

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

Mamdani will singlehandedly build socialism in one state. The City of New York will become the beating heart of the revolution that ends the American Empire. Great man theory ? Its time for great Mayor theory

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago

NYC, the capital of Capital, would be a poetic start of socialism in the US if that were to happen

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Okay, but who will slam Lenin for his take on municipal socialism once that happens?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago

Presumptively assuming Lenin will be wrong usually doesn’t end well

I worked on the campaign and can tell you with certainty that he has been prepared for resistance and ratfuckery all of the way

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I've been unemployed and realized too late the campaign was paying canvassers $30/hr (per the job posting). I would have done that!

Now I'm just refreshing his jobs page hoping for something new. I'm tired of tech work anyway.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Don’t sweat it too much. Only a handful of canvassers were getting paid (less than 100 out of 50000 if I had to estimate) and it was mostly to have people on staff who were fluent in one or more of the rarer languages found around the city to reach enclaves of particular language speakers that were hard to find regular volunteers for.

If that does describe you though, keep your eyes posted around the second half of this month. Some new positions like that should be opening up. It’s pretty much all assessment and drafting up strategy for the time being.

When are the Zohran Fedayeen sign ups coming for New Yorkers? Only somewhat kidding.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

If you volunteer for the campaign enough you can def recommend some merch ideas and it will be considered. Just saying

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Tell him he rocks. And to clone himself and send us a cowboy Zohran.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago

There are a million cowboy Zohrans for those with eyes to see them

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

/gen is he prepared for them to bring the full violence of the state down upon him??

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

There has been discussion on detainment long before today’s Trump statement on denaturalization and deportation of Zohran
