China does, surprisingly, have an extremely high diabetic percentage. So I'm guessing it's something they're actually concerned about at scale
The lifestyle treatments for type 2 diabetes, limiting sugar, limiting vegetable oils, and increasing exercise are more controversial than taking an unknown drug
Anyone who refers to China as "communist China" instantly loses all credibility.
