Isn't it yellow? ๐ค I vaguely remember Vermillion Town in Pokemon being yellow when played on a GBC. I've always associated it with yellow because of that.

I'm finding this out now from this post.
When people named flowers as 'Vermillion' I assumed the stems and leaves were some weird shade that I wasn't recognizing.
I had a hard time reading the post since I thought vermillion was green so it took a couple tries

No no no, it's yellow because Pokemon.
I first learned the word from the Vermilion Flycatcher, which is a bright red bird
I feel the same way about cyan. It should be a shade of red damnit!
as a graphic designer this feels super wrong. especially since it's the exact opposite of red.
Vermillion being red fucks a lot of millennials up who grew up watching Pokemon.
Vermillion city not being a shade of yellow is the standout because it hosts the Electric Gym (yellow themed). Every other city's gym is related to the town color.

- water gym is Cerulean city (blue)
- grass gym is Celadon city (greenish)
- poison gym is Fuschia city (pinkish is commonly poison for pokemon)
- the FIGHTING gym is in Saffron city (orange ish is a Fighting type color in the tcg)
- Fire gym is on Cinnabar Island (bright red)
- Earth Badge is in Viridian (an earthy green)
Saffron City was built with the fighting gym in place. Sabrina's psychic gym has JUST replaced him when you get to town

Fun fact: apparently vermillion is actually made from cinnabar, so there's no reason why Vermillion City shouldn't have been located on Cinnabar Island.
