I'm not a huge fan of hers but she's okay. I'd say I'm a casual enjoyer of her music. I saw that her new album is on a clear CD. How did they even make this thing? I've seen cheap CD-R's that are kind of see-through when held up to the light, but this is almost completely clear. I stole this picture from discogs by the way but if someone wants a higher quality picture taken by me I'd be happy to. Seriously though, this thing looks cool as hell.
Seen several videos showing it not working, but I guess if it works for you, cool.
I only tried it in my PC optical drive. I'll run some tests and report back.
Update: I tried it in a Denon CD changer and it wasn't detected, Same story with my Tascam CD recorder. It worked fine in my Denon DVD/SACD player. It also worked without issue in my Sony CD clock radio. Damn, this thing is going to get returned alot lol.
I love the idea and it's nice to see artists/labels still taking an interest in physical releases (and not just vinyl) :)
I wonder how exactly it works; I'm guessing there's several layers so that the laser doesn't go through
Kind of surprised both that this technology exists (I guess the reflective layer is only reflective at the relevant wavelengths?) and that the industry is still trying to innovate despite the trend to non-physical.
Personally I think the CD has been done dirty, it's a very good consumer-friendly format (even though I kind of wish they had settled on 48kHz because that's basically universally used nowadays). The have that it's between by vinyl nowadays in terms of sales shows how little less actually about the music and more about performance.
