The Ukraine bill, which passed with 311 votes in favor, 112 votes against,

It's insane that a bill with such a majority can be delayed 8 months, when it's desperately needed to pass.
Hopefully the fact that other countries have attempted to increase help to somewhat fill the void, will help Ukraine more in the long run.
The period without American aid has been a clear demonstration that although Europe mostly agreed we needed more military independence from USA already 5 years ago, we are far away from achieving that. Hopefully the result will be a stronger NATO, and hopefully Ukraine can join NATO soon.

Truly disastrous. And hopefully a serious wake up call for Europe. Inconceivably sad that many Ukranians died and will die as a result of this stupid political game that delayed funding for the most critical conflict of the 21st century.

Seemingly anything is leverage for US politicians to discuss MeXiCo and GuNs!

Not even a potential conflict with their arch enemy "the commies" can focus them away from fearmongering internal affairs

Yes, especially since we (Europe) realized with the election of Trump, that USA clearly couldn't be trusted anymore. But I guess most people thought we'd have more time? Or maybe even that USA would become trustworthy again? No doubt we'd prefer that.

Now the question is will some of the Democrats support Johnson as Speaker when the R bomb throwers like MTG formally make the motion for him to step down? I think that would have had to be part of the backroom deals to get everything through.

And then he is also running the risk of getting primaried because he didn't do exactly what the Orange Fuhrer wanted.

I doubt they'll support Johnson. Because a couple of R representatives have signaled that they will resign if they attempt to remove Johnson. That would make Democrats the majority party. And they would be able to put forward their own candidate.

I think chances are that MTG may have an extreme fit of hysteria, and may suffocate on her uvula.
I really wonder how she gets through a normal day alive, considering her extreme insanity. How is she not committed?

I doubt she cares whether the package(s) pass or not.

She just wants attention, and being human clickbait, as opposed to governing and legislating.

Came here to post this and say "finally", but someone had already noticed. :)

There's a quote that's probably not from Churcill, but is frequently mis-attributed to him (the actual source is probably Abba Evan, an Israeli diplomat visiting Japan). The distorted quote says something that's appropriate today:

"You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, after they have exhausted all other possibilities."

Personally I find it hard to have that reaction when it also includes billions in support of Israel's ongoing genocide.

All because of a few assholes did it take this long, and it pisses me and quite a few others off to no end.

I guarantee tons of Ork-be-Gone are being loaded on planes, ships, and trains as I type this, and before Bidens signature is even finished, it will be on its way to Ukraine.

Slava Ukraini!

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House swiftly approved $95 billion in foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel and other U.S. allies in a rare Saturday session, Democrats and Republicans joining together after months of political turmoil over renewed American support for repelling Russia’s invasion.

The weekend scene presented a striking display of congressional action after months of dysfunction and stalemate fueled by Republicans, who hold the majority but are deeply split over foreign aid, particularly for Ukraine as it fights Russia’s invasion.

Opponents, particularly the hard-right Republicans from Johnson’s majority, argued that the U.S. should focus on the home front, addressing domestic border security and the nation’s rising debt load, and they warned against spending more money, which largely flows to American defense manufacturers, to produce weaponry used overseas.

At the same time, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has loomed large over the fight, weighing in from afar via social media statements and direct phone calls with lawmakers as he tilts the GOP to a more isolationist stance with his “America First” brand of politics.

Still, the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus has derided the legislation as the “America Last” foreign wars package and urged lawmakers to defy Republican leadership and oppose it because the bills do not include border security measures.

Those include proposals that allow the U.S. to seize frozen Russian central bank assets to rebuild Ukraine; impose sanctions on Iran, Russia, China and criminal organizations that traffic fentanyl; and legislation to require the China-based owner of the popular video app TikTok to sell its stake within a year or face a ban in the United States.
