I work at a newly opened restaurant and we had photographers come in to take pictures of the food. My friend is in charge of our salad station and created this masterpiece.

Dumb. Mix that shit up so I don't make a mess. Or, provide a large zip lock bag and I'll dump and shake it myself.

The reason most restaurants don't pre-mix salads is because it's easier for the customer to see all the toppings and tell whether they have everything they ordered.

Plus if you asked for no tomato and it came out pre-mixed it'd be a lot harder to pick out the tomatoes.

I'm just saying despite the obvious inconvenience of having to mix your own salad, not doing so would lead to even more inconvenience for you.

No inconvenience for me. I don't have food issues. I eat pretty much everything.

Unfortunately you're not everyone. In fact most people aren't that way.

And people get very angry when their food comes out wrong.

Of course people want their orders to come out correct. That doesn't mean all meals should come out deconstructed for inspection, as the rationale seems to be here.

It's that argument mixed with "humans care more about aesthetics than anything else"

The reality is people care more about something looking good than actually being good. I personally feel like that's the dumbest shit ever, but that's the reality.

That's fair, but tossed salads are beautiful too! I love putting my mouth all over a tossed salad.

While I do like the presentation, I absolutely hate it when they serve something entirely different in it's presentation and serving size from that of the menu. False advertising should not be allowed.

My friend and I try our best to make every dish look exactly the same. Problem is our coworkers don't seem to share that sentiment.

Thank you for your efforts. It does put a smile on my cranky face when such efforts are made.

0 stars! Restaurant made me toss my own salad.

These salads to me feel like they send a message. Like "Mix it yourself, peasant, and good luck keeping it all in the bowl when you do. By the way 95% of it's just iceberg hidden under the toppings."

Don't get me wrong, the orderly layers are aesthetically pleasing. And it actually looks like romaine or green leaf here which is nice.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I like not mixing it. Then you can get variaty in each bite, and choose what it is.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

It is actually just spring mix and romaine. We started out using iceberg but our head chef didn't like it so we switched.

As for mixing the salads you'll actually have more complaints from customers if the salads are pre-mixed.

Unless you're only eating salad, I can see it being enough for four people as a side dish. In which case you can pick what you want easily.

Masterpiece? Where's the Thousand Island dressing???

(not serious)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I know this is a joke but all our salads come with your choice of dressing!

(We do actually have thousand island though 😉)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I would eat that.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

That salad looks friend-shaped

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

if all of the salads look like that then well done!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I prefer mine raw.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

We do our best to make everything the same way every time!

consistency is important

That's actually kinda accurate

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You could lay a slice of hard cooked egg where the storm is lol.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I had a similar thought, but only using the first slice of a tomato so that it's red.
