My new time organisation is going well to plan.

Weekends for doing household work, weekdays for doing school and art with some cooking chores and cat chores

Also got all my stuff ready to dye my hair tomorrow. It's been 4 months . Blue black hair, yay ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

A beautiful day launching the new kids club at our neighbourhood house. We had almost 40 families join us and all the snags got eaten.

This was the first event I took a back seat on and I initially felt really guilty "leaving everyone else to do all the work" (even though my stepping back was planned and carefully negotiated, as I'm still dealing with mystery health issues) but the entire team remarked that it all came together easily as "many hands make light work" and for once we had enough funding to bring on the appropriate number of staff for the project!

The weather held out and I met so many amazing locals, I couldn't have asked for a better day.

And the timing worked out perfectly with the MRI I'd been scheduled for. Packed up after the event jumped on the bus, and got there at the exact right time.

Am I the only one who finds getting an MRI relaxing? It's an excuse to lie down and be still while zoning out and pretending I'm being faxed somewhere. The technician tried playing me some Muzak over the headphones and laughed when I asked her to stop because it was messing with my ability to enjoy the magnetic dubstep.

I know daylight savings cops a lot of flack, but the nights it ends are awesome. Extra late omega ultimate deluxe party night! Or if you're of the get off my lawn!/yelling at clouds age, it's a free sleep in! Unless you have kids, then you don't get either. Unless you ditch the kids, then you get both!

City outing with the fam today. Dinner on Lygon street. Ordered a beer and the waiter put it in front of my son. We had a chuckle and asked the waiter how old did he think my son was. The dude said 18+20 for sure.

I think it made my son's, who is actually 14, year.

Time and date is one of my weaknesses

I'll tell your arch enemy to ward you off with a calendar and a clock

Had my once-every-many-weeks check of LinkedIn on the desktop to see connection requests and the like. Found myself hit with that pang of realising how stagnant I was for years at my past role - can't blame the workplace entirely, but I feel like I lost so much of my more passionate years while hamstrung by visa conditions. I have the freedom now but not as much excitement any more...

Something definitely needs to change. I don't have huge ambitions but I also want to aim a little higher (in a sustainable way).... think with whatever experience I get in the next year and a half or so, I might be able to shift my career into something more interesting or substantial. Maybe do a formal qualification in spatial tech and get a gig in some cool environmental fieldwork company.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's weird that 'aiming higher' means getting a new job, more often than not.

I honestly think that workplaces, in general, pigeon hole a person into a role and that's all.

All the best in your search and progress.

If you can get a permanent government gig, they'll pay for your education in some cases.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I think there could've been scope to aim higher (expand my experience) at my last place, but not with the way management turned out in the last year.

My current gig is PT government, very low-level in the scheme of things (because at this exact moment I don't want a super challenging job), but an useful foot in the door after being denied opportunities all these years. I could easily do more complex roles with a bit of training but those positions are currently filled by fairly capable and willing people, so unless they leave, I think opportunities are limited (which is ok for now). I'll definitely stay for a year at least and see what else opens up.

Seeing how much further people who started around the time I did in this industry have gone, it's easy to feel a little bitter. But I can catch up and develop my own niche, I think...

Covid lockdowns did NOT help.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I probably might be still at my old job but further advanced and happier (everyone might've been happier) if it weren't for the impact of the lockdowns. The one upshot was that at the time, it paved the way for me to stay in this country permanently. I can't keep blaming the lockdowns now though, I do need to move on. Next week might bring some resolution about some options in that regard

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

it's only recently I thought that maybe my depression was in part caused by the lockdowns

now I can finish recovering :)

So Aldi has branded clothing (as in "Aldi" brand) limited edition coming next week. I assume there must be a market for it, since they wouldn't sell it if they didn't think people would buy it. But I'm left wondering whether there are going to be people lining up at opening for their chance to own an Aldi hoodie or T-shirt.

What sort of person buys this?

Edit: Here - pages 14-21 of the catalogue.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I'd have a look at the shoes and maybe the brolly. Nothing else appeals. The shoes look fairly discreet.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

They have to pay me to wear their advertisement garb.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Is this going to be Aldi brand like anko brand T-shirts, where you wouldn't know unless you saw the tag, or is this Aldi brand like a Nike or Supreme shirt?

I'd consider buying them if they're plain and cheap, but I do not wear anything with visible branding, except shoes since there's not much choice there. But everything else must not have it's brand visible or I just don't wear it

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Like the latter, only bold like a sports team branding. I've just edited my comment with the clothing in question.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Holy shit that looks ridiculous. I cant even-

When was the catalogue released? Is this a belated april fools?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I would probably wear the hoodie but I wouldnโ€™t go to Aldi just to get that.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I assume it'll be plain with only the tag saying Aldi.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (2 children)

From the catalogue Nath shared

Actually, I don't hate that beanie - if it's just a rainbow colour and not with a giant Aldi logo on it. I can't tell from the picture. I'd tear off that tag, of course.

Not that I've worn a beanie since I returned to Perth. They're a Melbourne thing. So, I don't intend to buy it. ๐Ÿ™‚

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Yeah, would definitely wear that hoodie and those slides are kinda dope.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

nah, a lot of it is aldi colours, with the aldi logo on it.

Pour one out for the staff at the Arts Centre where the website (the one people need to download their tickets) is down on a Saturday night during comedy festival ๐Ÿฅƒ

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

the Arts Centre website is a steaming pile of shit almost constantly, as is much about that organisation. not FOH workers.

My Woolies order arrived three hours late and turned out not to be mine at all. So I still don't have any useful groceries and I need to find somewhere to donate a big box of nappies.

It looks like The Nappy Collective have a few collection points right near me so I'll run with that. Hopefully somebody didn't need them too desperately tonight!

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I love a dinner that is just throwing together whatever left in the fridge.

(tonight it was veggies and a salmon fillet thrown in the air fryer before being made into a frittata).

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

My dad used to call meals like that 'week in review'

Sometimes it worked. Otjer times, not so much.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Oh chicken and vegetables, how I've missed you despite your blandness.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

I've done very little today except prepare meals for family and watch short films (thankyou to those who mentioned it in yesterday's thread, it's an addictive habit lol). I bought Miniest an ocarina as part of her birthday present and they had one with a cracked glaze for cheap, so I got it as well. We've been attempting to play them and the eldest said it's like being in a room full of apprentice snake charmers. I can sort of play "The Rose" but it'll take a fair bit more practise before I can play well. Drew us a D major finger position chart thingy, which really helps.
