I saw the Tesla Robotaxi:

  • Drive into oncoming traffic, getting honked at in the process.
  • Signal a turn and then go straight at a stop sign with turn signal on.
  • Park in a fire lane to drop off the passenger.

And that was in a single 22 minute ride. Not great performance at all.

Maybe they could add something to the road, to keep the taxis going in the right direction. Some kind of guard rails on the road.

And if it’s just taxis on those rail roads, they could go a lot faster.

You could probably connect a bunch of taxis together to move them more efficiently, too.

Imagine, if you could connect cities with these kinds of high speed, high capacity rail roads! Robo taxis are the future!

I'm no fan of Musk, Tesla or FSD, but this headline is quite sensationalized.

This is the video of the moment they are describing, and I would not call that "driving into oncoming traffic." It's driving on the wrong side of the road (which is not good), but there is no cars coming in the other direction while it is doing it.

My bad! I sort of suck at writing headlines... that's on me, I get feedback like that from time to time, and it's fair more often than not.

Not intentional, I just am not a very good at this whole "journalism" thing.

I figured the cars pointed at the Robotaxi at the 7:20 mark were "oncoming traffic," but I can totally see where you're coming from, on closer inspection, using the "Wrong Side of the Road" language would have been clearer that "Oncoming" to describe it.

I agree it’s a sensationalized title. However it was also a very easy piece part to drive, great weather, good visibility. Yet still it failed. That is worrying.

No love for them from me, either, but trying to be objective, this honestly doesn't look any worse than an inexperienced human driver. Not that I'd choose to use it given alternatives, but having been riding with a teenaged student driver recently, this looks like about that same level of stressful.

It's almost as if driving is an intense and stressful activity that requires focus and skill, and it is psychotic that the only barrier to entry is a small amount of money.
