Big Oden energy from this flashback so I'm guessing that's why we are getting a speedrun version of it as it'll focus on Loki and Hajrudin more.
We see Oda dealing with the theme of bloodlines and culture here. Hajrudin wasn't accepted by the Elbaph cultural elite and since Harald didn't want to rock the boat and compromise at home while he was on a diplomatic mission he went along with it. Harald questions why the World Government keeps blocking his diplomatic missions but also himself submits to the cultural stigma of elbaph.
Loki was born with crazy genetics, most likely the peak of genetic ability we'll see in the series besides Big Mom. But he also was born "cursed" despite meeting Elbaph's cultural standards of being a warrior and having pure blood. On the topic of Big Mom, I really hope it wasn't Loki's eyes that made Lola reject Loki because that would just be brutal.
I do like that the twist of Loki's eyes is that he's just ugly af and it's not some corny observation haki overload.
Rip to Elbaf as Elbaph is dancing on its grave rn, Oda loves trolling us smh.
I was assuming Loki's eyes would be cute and that's why he bandaged them lol.
I like the thematic implications of Loki's "curse" being because of the blood purity politics. He's pure on according to the conservative social values, but still rejected because of that. It's also interesting to see Oda invert his usual femme design trope where Estrid is more conventionally attractive, but reactionary and Ida is more plain, but progressive.
Harald becoming popular by just becoming a progressive leader and Loki getting Sparta'd by his woo woo aristocrat mother was not how I expected this flashback to go but here we are
Yeah I was expecting Loki to be the first kid until they revealed the name. Figured he had a rough upbringing but not having your mom literally throw you off a mountain the day you were born bad.
Will be interesting to see how Harald gets tied up with the world government.
It seems like even this early Harald is trying to talk to the World Government so I wonder what the disconnect between them is
