Many years ago, I had to fix a video of my sisters wedding after the only copy of the file they had truncated itself somehow.

Had to extract all the audio and video frame locations and recreate the missing part of the file. It was a colossal pain in the arse. Couldn't find anything at the time to automatically fix it.

use opus unless you're an audiophile then use flac unless you want to play files on integrated or old hardware that only plays mp3s

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

I have everything as FLAC, then every now and then run a batch conversion to a mirror folder as MP3V0
Of course, after I spent all that time converting and automating, I got a spotify subscription, and barely touch the files now :|

Opus @ >128 kbps sounds as good as FLAC, even for audiophiles (as much as some may try to deny it). The real advantage for FLAC is for archival purposes.

I store all my music as flac cause I just dont care about file sizes

What should I be listening to?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Flac, always flac, nothing but flac.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

FLAC is the only real answer, disk space is cheap, lost data is not.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago
