They chose an interesting time to switch licensing. MS introduced Garnet, and now the LF has Valkey as a direct descendent. Strange times ahead.

From my understanding Redis hasn't been libre software since 2018 so the new competition from Microsoft might be a driver for the licensing decision.

Had no knowledge of what Valkey or Redis was, so: 'Valkey, an open source alternative to the Redis in-memory, NoSQL data store.'

At least that helped me a bit ;-)
